Davide Bartesaghi has revealed a bit about what it means to represent AC Milan, and his hopes for the future.
Going into the 2025-26 season, it seemed as though Bartesaghi was set for a back-up role on the left side, after Pervis Estupinan arrived from Brighton. However, the Italian took his chance when an injury to his new team-mate saw him become a starter, and he has never looked back.
The left-back scored a brace against Sassuolo to really announce himself on the big stage, and now he looks like a core piece for the future moving forward. There is also talk that Gennaro Gattuso is considering a senior national team call-up in the not too distant future.
Bartesaghi was a guest on the ‘Quickfire’ series that Milan TV do, based around taking a drive with a player in a car from the club sponsors BMW. This time it was Bartesaghi’s turn, and his words have been relayed below.
How much does it mean to play for Milan?
“A lot. I’ve been a Milan fan since I was a kid. My dad passed that passion for Milan on to me.”
Who were your idols growing up?
“Other than Paolo Maldini, I used to watch Marcelo Vieira. That’s when I really started getting into football, so I looked up to him as an example.”
What is Allegri like?
“The coach is positive, always trying to see the right side of things, always trying to stay positive, and he asks that of us too.”
Do you speak to anyone before games?
“Usually, my two best friends send me pre-match messages saying ‘Have a good game’, wishing me luck, but I never read them before the match.”
What would you have been if not a footballer?
“I was actually talking about it with my family the other day: if I hadn’t become a footballer, I would’ve helped my dad in construction.”
What gets under your skin?
“I’m very tidy. I hate mess, even in my room or just in my locker in the dressing room. I can’t stand messy places.”
What do you have for breakfast?
“For breakfast, I go sweet: Greek yoghurt with a bit of honey, and a pancake, also with some honey.”
When do you wake up?
“On my days off, I tend to wake up a bit later around 10:30 at the latest. Even when I wake up for training around 8, I always wake up well, also because I try to sleep as much as possible.”
Do you have pre-match rituals?
“I’m superstitious. I always try to stick to my routine, both before the game and on matchday.”
Do you think a lot about things?
“If I have to do something I really care about, I tend to think it through first. But when I get a bit nervous, I become more instinctive.”
How would you describe yourself?
“Positive, funny and cheerful, because I always try to bring good energy into the dressing room.”
Do you look at social media a lot?
“I’m quite relaxed about social media. If anything, I check it more than when I was younger just to have a laugh, sometimes.”
What do you watch on TV?
“It’s called Top Boy, it’s my favourite series, and I don’t think anything beats it.”
How do you like to dress?
“I’m not exactly elegant, I’ve got my own style, a bit flashy. Sometimes, I wear earrings, and Landucci or the coach will tell me, ‘Hey, you need to take them off, they’re not allowed’.”
What else winds you up?
“When someone says, ‘I need to tell you something’, and then goes, ‘Actually, it’s nothing, I’ll tell you later’, or just, ‘Never mind’. Because I get curious after a while.”
Are you good at waking up on time?
“Just to be safe, I set two or three alarms. Usually I let the first one ring, but I wake up pretty easily anyway.”
Do you send voice messages ever?
“If I’m in certain moments of the day, like right after training, I don’t want to listen to voice notes.
With all the noise in the dressing room, I see a voice message and think, ‘I’ll listen later’. I really don’t like them.”
What was the last thing you searched for?
“How to change some settings on a game. On Fortnite, because I’ve been playing with my friends lately. I need to be ready, so I have to set everything properly to get better.”
What’s your favourite emoji?
“The emoji that looks like this (😬). It’s a bit like, ‘See, I told you I was right’, you know?”
Finally, your dream…
“To stay at AC Milan forever, for as long as possible, and, of course, to wear the Italy shirt.”
