Journalist believes Lukaku joining Milan is possible: “They have the opportunity”

By Oliver Fisher -

A financial expert has not ruled out the possibility of AC Milan signing a player of Romelu Lukaku’s calibre amid reports linking him with a move back to Italy from Chelsea.

An article on Goal by the reliable Chelsea journalist Nizaar Kinsella claimed that the Rossoneri could offer an escape route to save Lukaku from his Chelsea ‘nightmare’ if the takeover talks ongoing between Investcorp and Elliott Management are successful.

He was signed for €120m last summer but Milan’s hopes rest on Chelsea getting new owners possibly over the next week who could cut their losses and sell Lukaku to raise some quick funds, while Investcorp could add a ‘big signing under the right structure’.

Marco Bellinazzo of Il Sole 24 Ore spoke live on Calciomercato.it’s channel and commented on the rumours that have arisen today regarding Milan being a potential destination for the Belgian, and suggested that more financial resources could open up options to bolster the squad with bigger names.

“Lukaku-Milan with Investcorp? We are talking about a fund that has significant resources with shareholders of an even more important standing [backing them], so I guess they have the opportunity to do this kind of operation,” he said (via MilanNews).
