DZFoot: Bennacer’s Algeria involved in drone spying incident ahead of AFCON

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer is currently away at the African Cup of Nations, and Algeria have been involved in an incident involving spying on training sessions.

Bennacer left for Africa after the 1-0 win against Sassuolo at San Siro and there is the possibility that he will be gone until into February, given that Algeria – as always – are one of the favourites to go deep into the competition.

However, not everything is going smoothly at the training camp with his country because there have been previous suspicions that the Algerian national team were being spied on by opponents, and these have now been confirmed.

As reported by DZFoot, a drone was spotted flying over their training centre, intent on spying on Bennacer and his team-mates and getting some information.

At the moment there have been no communications from the Algerian Football Federation, but it would appear that the man piloting the drone has been arrested.

It gets even stranger: it is believed that it was an Ivorian who was piloting the drone and had it fly over the field before the police intervened. While rumours spoke of espionage from a team they will face, the Ivorian in question works for an Algerian media.
