AC Milan had become used to Ismael Bennacer’s injury problems, but the midfielder has suffered his first setback since joining Marseille.
According to Calciomercato.com, Bennacer now faces a period of absence due to a muscular problem that prevents him from answering the call-up with his national team. The Algeria coach, Vladimir Petkovic confirmed it in a press conference.
“Bennacer wanted to come, he wanted it a lot. He had a great start to his adventure in Marseille and I wanted to put him in the starting lineup for the next two games. On the eve of the match against PSG, at 4 in the morning, he told me that he was suffering from a muscular problem, which was later confirmed by the tests,” he said.
After leaving Milan in February, the midfielder moved to Olympique Marseille on loan with an option to buy, a total package worth €16m. It is a €1m loan fee plus an €12m option to buy clause which is not mandatory, plus bonuses.
Under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi, the former Empoli is trying to find himself against after the many injuries with the aim of returning to being that fundamental player he was in the Rossoneri’s conquest of the 2021-22 Scudetto.
He has played 328 minutes showing some positive moments for a team that sits second in their league. Now, however, he is forced to sit out again with the hope – as it seems from the first tests – that the stoppage could be short.
As a reminder, Bennacer spoke about Marseille’s ‘philosophy’ as the reason for wanting to move. He demanded a transfer on deadline day which irritated the management, as per reports, so him returning could create an awkward situation.
What he’s injured? No way
Was there ever any doubt. Too bad for him. He’s a good player but just will never be able to stay healthy.
The price you pay for not putting “obligation to buy” in the deal.
Milan deal’s over the winter transfer window should have had more binding clauses for purchases and we are running a serious risk come the summer.
You think this current management has the collective brain cells to make basic smart decisions like that???
You think they were in a position to negotiate that sort of deal? They were desperately trying to free up salary for short term and got whatever they could. Bennacer and Morata will be back when their loans expire.
There are two sides involved in a deal. Do you think Marseille would have agreed to an obligation to buy deal on a player who is prone to serious injuries?
Type commenters never think there’s two sides. They think clubs will just roll over and give Milan the moon.
Surprise surprise
If he has good agreement with Marseille, than possible they will buy him for that fee.
If not, as a bench option he could be useful in next season.
Useful where???? Someone that forced a move away from Milan. Put us at tight corner at the tail end of the market. He has messed up big time.
Bennacer is what we’ve all known him to be – an injury prone player throughout his career. No matter where he plays. The Scudetto season being his only highlight.
To all those calling for him to come back.
It sounds like a minor injury.
Your loyalty knows no bounds.
“Your loyalty knows no bounds.”
LOL. Let me check who wrote that. Oh, it was Maldinis Hair. The irony… 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Says the Como fan…
Sigh
I’m sceptical of injuries that occur just before intermational games at end of season. Perhaps he is just trying to get out of it at this tiring time of the season.
The only thing that is predictable is the response from ‘fans’ who see every thing as transactional.
The same ‘fans’ then demand commitment from whichever random players who happen to be passing through Milanello at a given time, and then scratch their heads wondering why this group of strangers aren’t more of a ‘team’.
I can’t help but note the irony of you of all people calling out others for being fickle 🤣
I hate to break it to you but the whole industry is transactional. Players want better deals just as bad as clubs. Fans are just watching and commenting but are largely committed to the crest.
