Bennacer: “It’s a harsh defeat, but football is like that”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has praised the spirit that the team showed during Sunday night’s 2-1 defeat to Lazio.

Simone Inzaghi’s side arrived at the San Siro having not beaten the Rossoneri in Serie A away from home since 1989, but they were able to end that 30-year hoodoo.

Ciro Immobile’s trademark header gave the Aquile a first half lead but a Bastos own goal from a Theo Hernandez cross levelled the scoring in the first half.

With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Lazio took advantage of Milan’s high line to put Joaquin Correa through on goal and he made no mistake, firing past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Bennacer was one of the better players on the park for Stefano Pioli’s men receiving a 7/10 in our player ratings.

At the end of the match Bennacer spoke to Milan TV, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“Harsh defeat, but football is like that. We have to work harder, but tonight’s spirit is the right one,” he said.

“I am taking more and more confidence, but I still have to work a lot because I lost too many balls and maybe I could recover even more.

“We must work to improve more and more. We must continue to have this spirit.

“We need courage in these games. We need to prepare ourselves for the best.”
