Bennacer admits Milan would like to win by a bigger margin but victories are ‘most important’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has admitted that the team would like to win more comfortably but also stressed that victories are all that matter at the moment.

There wasn’t a tonne of quality on show in a rain-soaked night in Sardinia, but just before the hour mark it was Milan who got the opening goal that their pressure deserved and it came through Bennacer.

The best passing move of the game involving several one-twos with Giroud the quarterback fittingly ended with him laying the ball into the path of the Algerian, who hit the sweetest of volleys from the edge of the box past a motionless Cragno inside the far post.

Bennacer spoke to Sky Italia and DAZN after the game to reflect on the performance of the team and his hand in securing yet another vital win. He was asked about the altercation at the end between the two sets of players to begin with.

“I don’t know, I didn’t see what happened in Maignan. But the most important thing today were the three points. We are all decisive, today it was me. I’m very happy to have helped the team. I’m very happy for myself and for the team,” (via MilanNews).

“It is true that we do not score many goals, but we win. They are always three points and for us it is the same even if you win 2-3-4 at 0: 1-0 is enough. The most important thing is the end, we can’t say anything else. Head down and work to do the best possible.”

On his goal: “It’s an important goal because we won. We have to keep working, we all try to always give our best for the team.”

On the growth of Milan: “We have more experience, we have been working together for two years. There are still several games left, let’s just think about the next one. Now there is a break, then when we come back we will continue to work.”

On the 1-0 victory: “We would like to win two or three to zero, but 1-0 is also okay. We don’t concede any goals and this is important.”

On the brawl at the end: “I don’t know what happened in the end, I wasn’t close.”
