Bennacer shuts down Man City and PSG rumours: “I want to score many more with this shirt”

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer has seemingly quashed rumours that he could leave the club this summer by declaring that he wants to score ‘many more’ goals with Milan.

Bennacer and his midfield partner Franck Kessie have been a huge part of that, as the African duo are the real metronome of the game designed by Stefano Pioli. However, the performance of the former Empoli man has not gone unnoticed.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) recently reported that Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have both taken note of the Algeria international’s exploits.

Pep Guardiola has apparently ‘fallen in love with the player’, so much that he wants to bring him to England immediately, while PSG have shown an inclination to offer as much as €50million to take him to Paris.

Nonetheless, Bennacer was interviewed by Milan TV and talked about numerous topics, starting by discussing his first goal for the club against Bologna and declaring he hopes it is the first of many for the Rossoneri.

“Too bad there were no fans, I was very happy because I helped the team a lot with this goal,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I have to work a lot on this, to be decisive, even if I work a lot for the team, but also personally it is always positive scoring and serving assists. Too bad it was behind closed doors, but it wasn’t the last goal, I want to score many more with this shirt.”

On the role of regista: “I have grown a lot in this role. For me it is the same to play mezzala, I have to grow in something, I have been a regista for less than two years and I have yet to learn.”

On his partnership with Kessie: “With Franck I am very well, we try to give our best on the pitch. The more we spend time together, the better things will improve for us and for the team. I am happy to work with Franck in midfield.”

On Donnarumma and the captain’s armband: “The more leaders there are, the better for the team. Gigio is this type of player, he is a captain, he talks a lot and helps the team a lot.”

On post-lockdown training: “We want to work like this, we went back to training hard after the lockdown, we were tired but look now. I would do it the same way to get these results.”

On Milan-Cagliari: “We must do well first of all for the fans, they are not with us but they are part of us, our strength. We must give everything for them, end well for them and for us.”
