SM: Berardi and Scamacca show off in rout of Spezia – the latest on Milan’s interest

By Oliver Fisher -

In their 4-1 rout against Spezia, Sassuolo had yet another opportunity to show off their two stars in Domenico Berardi (author of a brace) and Gianluca Scamacca.

Berardi and Scamacca are – together with Raspadori and Frattesi – the precious pieces of the Sassuolo squad. The Itaian duo have been repeatedly linked with Milan over the last few days as Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini look to improve the squad ahead of next season.

Costs and concerns

As we have learned through our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, both Berardi and Scamacca are on Milan’s list of targets but both, for different reasons, cannot be defined as being at the top of the wish list.

Berardi is a symbol of Sassuolo, but his performances for Italy – where he struggles to emerge as a protagonist despite playing plenty of games and being a European champions – are a cause for concern. His talent is indisputable, but the Rossoneri management believe that he may not have much potential to grow further in the future.

The problem for Scamacca meanwhile is the insurmountable obstacle of Sassuolo’s asking price as they want €40-45m to sell the 23-year-old striker.  There is a meeting scheduled between the Milan and Sassuolo managements to discuss the future of the striker, and Berardi could come up too.

  1. I was pushing for signing Scamacca last year when he was around 20-25m. Now he’s too expensive. Too bad because he’ll likely go to Inter now..
