AC Milan’s mission to renew Rafael Leao will be a far from easy one given the different complications involved in the negotiations, a report claims.
Calciomercato.com report that the interest from many top teams in Europe like Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid is just the start of the issues for Milan, who know that those clubs can guarantee a higher salary.
Two other circumstances make things tough too, starting with the decision a few months ago by Leao’s father to have a trusted lawyer represent him, whose interests are likely to enter into conflict with those of his agent Jorge Mendes regarding the €20m fine owed to Sporting CP.
The report cites Record in claiming that Lille – the club that benefited from Leao’s release from Sporting in the summer of 2018 and who a year later sold him to Milan – had their appeal rejected by the Swiss federal court so they maintain co-responsibility in the payment of the compensation to the Portuguese club.
Last May the appeal of Leao’s lawyers was also rejected, for which the Court of Milan imposed the foreclosure of 20% of his salary, but the story is still far from being concluded because a final decision is awaited form the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber.
As stated by Paolo Maldini in recent weeks, Milan considers itself absolutely not linked to the issue and no confirmations have arrived regarding an alleged meeting with the management of Sporting to try and reach a compromise (as per O Jogo), so there is no doubt that the renewal talks will be delicate.
