CorSport: Big distance between Milan’s offer and Leao’s demand – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

In addition to sales, new signings and other transfer business, the renewal of Rafael Leao is one of the biggest issues AC Milan must tackle this summer.

Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) have given an update on the negotiations between Milan and Leao, who was decisive in the Scudetto winning season as he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in Serie A, earning the title of league MVP.

The paper claims that the Rossoneri are still a long way off being able to get his signature as the requests from Leao have increased. In the Spring, Paolo Maldini and Massara offered a two-year extension with a tripled salary to €4.5m net per season.

However, it will now take around €7m per year to secure Leao’s renewal so the distance between offer and demand is currently very large. However, the 23-year-old wants to stay with the Rossoneri and there is release clause of €150m in his deal which keeps Milan safe.

It should also be remembered that Leao will have to compensate his old club Sporting CP every month with 30% of his salary for losing the court case against his former club linked to the unilateral termination of his contract in 2018, which he must do until he has paid of his €20m debt.

  1. I know he deserve to get the raise of salary, but if he really ask for that amount, I would just love to sell him in this mercato even the club able to pay. Why lot of player today like to act playing hard to get just with a little beyond mediocre level, while the real star easy to get.

  2. Im not even counting on his renewing for a long time. It’s just another Calha Casshie and Donnarumma thing and I’m so done with it. We just can’t renew anything for anyone, all people are talking about “ we will be back with the top teams in a few years” NO! Not even if we can change things and put the fk pen to the paper for players. You’re most important players need to renew are sell them. But those 0 money transfer are gonna break us up

  3. Im not even counting on his renewal.. for a long time already. It’s just another calha casshie and Donnarumma thing and I’m so done with it, it’s just unbelievable that we win a title and can’t even let our best player this season and the Best Serie player this season (although he didn’t deserve that imo) let just walk away for free. He will not care about us last season bc he will just leave, just sell him now. Our fans are talking about “ we will be back with the top clubs in a few years” NO! If we can’t even renew are best players! You just know if we have good players they will leave away for free.. I’m so done with it

  4. Why should players earn Milan millions of dollars through performing and Milan end up getting millions of dollars with sponsorships. Sponsorship revenue is generetaed by on field results. Yet the club refuses to pay players what they deserve. This is exploitation and players should refuse to be exploited. Leao contributed a lot in winning us the Championship. He deserve 6 to 7 mill.

    1. When he came to ACM, he was nobody. Last season he played ok, not extraordinary. It is long way from good to excellent. He still did not prove that he is star. ACM made him player. Maybe, in other club, he will be seating on bench, and be happy to get 1M. Hold on boy, come to earth!

    2. “Why should players earn Milan millions of dollars through performing and Milan end up getting millions of dollars with sponsorships. Sponsorship revenue is generetaed by on field results. Yet the club refuses to pay players what they deserve. This is exploitation and players should refuse to be exploited. ”

LOL. The biggest load of BS I’ve seen lately. And that’s quite a lot.

  5. They know he has a contract for two more years , so they ‘re trying to save money ! It’s perfectly legal of the leadership of the club. But.. I don ‘t understand why they behave that way every time they try to sign a new player or extend an existing contract ? It’s already getting devastating for the fans. If you want a player, it’s natural to bargain with his old club or manager, but to try to get a player for ice cream and juices just because it’s a question of playing in A.C. Milan is degrading !

  6. Stop being cheap and start getting the club back to the top. And I am not speaking about Maldini but the club board that includes owners that approve spending money. We can’t even sell Leao, no one will buy him now. Real doesn’t want him, Liverpool bought a 100M player, City as well, etc. We can’t even sell him if we want, all the possible destinations are gone.

  7. I think he deserves something in the order of 5.5m-6m max. He has the potential to become a great player but at the moment he is still a 10 goals/11 assists player. Good numbers but not great. From a 6m player you expect at least such numbers, if not more.
He has certainly the potential for more but he has to earn it.
So for the next 2-3 years, 5.5-6m seems a fair salary.

    1. Well… To be frank even the 5,5-6M€ is way too much for a “one hit wonder”. He’s played well for two months and you should pay him 4x more than he now gets?

MAYBE he’s worth 5M€ and IF he can hit double digits in goals AND assists and get another scudetto for Milan, maybe then he’s worth 6M€ or more. Not a day before.

      1. Spoke my mind… Messias should also be paid 3m because he scored 6 goals. Everyone will now ask for hefty raises.. the trend will continue.

Let them leave. Bennacer also wants more money… Everyone will soon line up, cap in hand.

  8. If he’s not 100% with Milan, sell him. No one player is bigger than the club. We’ll take the 150 million and buy about 5 players to replace him.

  9. The unreasonable request for exhorbitant salaries should be stopped. This applies not just to football, but most sports.
Better stop this trend, which I classify as arrogance and anti-common good.
After all, one will have to recover such payments from gate money, that is an extra burden on spectators who mainly come from the middle/low salary earners. This also leads to higher sponsorship fees, and transmission rights, which filter down to the cost of products, sometimes living essentials.
Giving in to this ‘bribery’, leads to the rich becoming nauseatingly richer, and the poor becoming poorer.
Stop this trend, as it is already too late.

    1. Well… They are planning to insert limits on agent fees and that’s a start. The next phase should be global salary caps for all leagues.

  10. Leao does not want more money, his agent does……There is where the issue lies. As to previous comments, we won the Scudetto, now wholesale changes are not needed. Last part of season Pioli made adjustments to free Leao from being marked by two and allowing him assists when marked by two, sorry he was great but not the second coming of Christ. If someone wants to gve A.C. 150m. ,so be it. And as to Dybala, he would have been a great acquisition, but slow minds allow him to go to Inter, double edged sword. Not with us but against us…

    1. Leao owes 20M euros to Sporting. He doesn’t give a fuck about our stupid comments, but is thinking about his life and his future. He should accept an offer and basically play for free? Because the total he would receive would be less than he would have to pay even though he needs to pay 20 or 30% of the wage only. But would you play and maybe get injured in 3 years and finish your career with 5M€ debt towards someone? Stop being idiots.

      1. Just for the record. I don’t think that our comments are stupid. We are true AC Milan fans and don’t accept players that only look at the money. Let them go. We don’t need them. We can just buy some new players. Look at the situation when Leao was playing for Portugal. Was he that fantastic? It was near by a disaster.

  11. Let Leao go. Don’t be a loser and accept sick increases as we hear it. He is and will never be worth that kind of money. €6 mill a year??? Forget it. AC Milan is a traditional and proud club, who should never be discussing with players that are not true to their club but only look at the money. I hope any AC Milan fans will back this up. Look what happened to Donnarumma. Now he can expect a low carrier because he was only looking at the money.
