Bild: Full story of Rangnick’s collapsed Milan move – Kjaer, Maldini and possible future deal

By Oliver Fisher -

Bild journalist Christian Falk has offered his insight as to why Ralf Rangnick’s proposed move to AC Milan has collapsed.

After an unstable few months, the last 48 hours brought everything to the fore for Milan, with everything seemingly having done a full 180 degree spin

There had been persistent speculation regarding Ralf Rangnick’s imminent arrival as head coach, and it seemed almost certain that he would arrive and lead a new revolution once the season was over.

However, during the first half of Tuesday night’s win over Sassuolo reports began to emerge stating otherwise. Kicker were the first to state that the German would not join and that in fact Stefano Pioli would sign a new deal and remain, something the club confirmed after the game.

Christian Falk spoke to MilanNews about the situation, confirming that there were always hesitations about the move.

“We knew he hesitated to sign the contract. But we also knew that he was thinking a lot about his presentation, scheduled within a couple of weeks,” he said.

“So the news was not totally surprising, but the timing was. Before the contacts and the negotiation with Milan Rangnick’s goal was the Premier League, and I think it still is.”

What were the causes of this non-agreement?

“Rangnick wanted to have full powers in the club. The many criticisms received, including those of Maldini, made him reflect on the fact that he could really implement his ideas. He also did not like that players were bought that he did not want: specifically, he didn’t want Simon Kjaer.”

How much has Coronavirus affected all this?

“The situation related to the Coronavirus emergency certainly delayed and delayed the agreement, but it was not the decisive cause.”

Now what will Rangnick do? Is it possible that he will be contacted by Milan again in the future?

“As far as I know, Gazidis and Rangnick get along well. I don’t feel like excluding that Rangnick will continue to think that he will still be involved in the club in the future. During the talks with him the club had to come to terms with many things.”

Do you think Pioli is the right man to build a new cycle on?

“It is difficult to say whether Pioli will be the right man to bring Milan back to the top. So far his career has not been as positive as it is now. He is highly appreciated by the fans and this is very important.

“The fact that in the last period the results athletes have been really good is certainly an important reason why in the end Rangnick decided not to go to Milan: he would have liked to arrive and be seen as a saviour. But now Milan no longer needs to be saved and therefore would not have simplified his task. “

What about the Hungarian striker ?

    1. That’s your opinion. Can’t you see,the team is getting better. How many years did it take Klopp to succeed at Liverpool. Pioli is the man. With the likes of Zlatan and a few signings, Milan should be in the top four and challenge for the Title. Pirlo left Milan and won the league with Juve. Zlatan can do same. Zlatan has brought consistency and a winning mentality to the team. Forza Pioli,Forza Ibra,Forza Milan.
