Bild: Milan serious about young Bayern Munich midfielder and launch enquiry

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been confirmed by a source in Germany this morning.

According to the newspaper edition of Bild (via Goal), the Milan management are pushing to try and sign Gravenberch, who got very little playing time with Bayern Munich last season.

With Sandro Tonali’s transfer to Newcastle United imminent, Milan would have the funds to rebuild the midfield with a profile like the Dutchman. The arrival of Ruben Loftus-Cheek is not enough for Pioli, who wants more dynamism.

Yunus Musah of Valencia and Tijjani Reijnders of AZ Alkmaar continue to be linked, but Gravenberch is an interesting opportunity to the management as the 21-year-old expressed his dissatisfaction regarding his role within the squad.

His €18.5m arrival from Ajax last summer looked like a real steal, but Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel have not used him much. Milan meanwhile could offer him a leading role and the chance to remain a Champions League player.

The negotiation has not yet started and it is just enquiries at this stage, but the idea is very much functional to the youth project that Geoffrey Moncada would like to carry out this summer.

  1. This is exactly what kind of midfielder we need.
Gravenberch and Mazraoui picked the wrong team last summer. Both played very little

  2. Out of all the names we have heard for midfield, this is by far the most interesting. The only profile which can replace Tonali (not immediately but in due time).
Anything up to 20m is a no brainer.

  3. If Milan can’t afford Musah and Chuz how tf are they going to afford Ryan? Bayern will want at least 30 mil for him…. We are without tonali and bennacer and the only mildfielders we got are Krunic and Lotus, if they don’t bring another 2 mildfielders and a decent RW we won’t finish top 4 next season

    1. It’s not being unable to afford, it’s about the perception of value. If they see him as a “50m player” available for much less, it’s a different scenario to thinking Musah is worth 20m and being asked to pay 25m.

Still, I don’t think it will happen.

  4. I love both Tijjani Reijnders and Ryan Gravenberch, both are tall compare to Milan previous midfielders and physically with lots of skills and vision
