Boban challenges RedBird to show their ‘ambitions’ and predicts a ‘not easy’ game for Milan vs. Dinamo

Zvonimir Boban has made some interesting comments about AC Milan’s chances of winning against Dinamo Zagreb and also regarding their future under RedBird Capital.

Boban was Milan’s Chief Football Officer as part of a new-look management alongside Paolo Maldini under Elliott Management but he did not end up lasting long as he was ultimately fired for an unauthorised interview he gave during which he revealed the club’s plan to replace Stefano Pioli with Ralf Rangnick.

Despite the court case that ensued over unfair dismissal and the rather unceremonious way that the Croatian left the club, he still speaks in the media about how the Rossoneri are getting on and his opinions on the team.

Interviewed on Radio Anch’Io Sport, Boban spoke about his current job between politics and sport among other topics, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“My new role? Football is always the main thing. I live this experience with passion and with the values I have always had, such as the desire to do well for football. Something good can also be done from glass buildings. We must always remember what real football is, even when it comes to politics,” he said.

Italian football is not at the top…

“We know how important the history of infrastructures is and how badly they worked on academies for years. After Pirlo, Italy no longer had a great talent. To change it takes 10/15 years, to return to being at the top. These years will have to pass by working hard and well and trying to build the stadiums, which is an essential problem.”

Milan take on Dinamo Zagreb in your native Croatia…

“Obviously Milan can win against Dinamo Zagreb. Quality is on Milan’s side even if the Croatians will sell their skin dearly. It will not be easy, nor will it be for me since they are the two teams of my life. I’ll go to the stadium.

“Milan have already set up many things, there are still some reinforcing roles but it will also depend on the club’s ambitions. It depends on how much you want to invest to get back to the top. Some things are not from the Champions League, you have to think big otherwise it is difficult to get back to the top.”

On the Scudetto fight…

“This Napoli seems really mature, they live an extraordinary atmosphere and you can see that they are a more convinced team in their own means. They play extraordinary football, they play very balanced.

“As far as the game is concerned, they seem ready to go to the end. Milan have great character even if they don’t play as well as Napoli. In the direct match, however, the Rossoneri played better. I say that Inter could also return and if Lukaku returns as he was two years ago, anything can happen.”
