Daniele Bonera Head Coach of Milan Futuro

CM: Bonera not at risk despite Milan Futuro being second-bottom – the situation

Milan Futuro suffered another heavy defeat on Sunday as they were beaten 3-0 by Ternana, coached by Ignazio Abate to give the result some extra bitterness.

The head coach Daniele Bonera spoke after the game and he was quite honest in his assessments. There was a nine-year gap in the average age of the two sides which in his eyes showed, given the inexperience of the Futuro.

Milan didn’t score when they were on top in the game and in fact conceded a second during their best spell, and Bonera also had to take two of his best players off – Davide Bartesaghi and Alex Jimenez – to preserve them for the Coppa Italia game against Sassuolo tonight.

The defeat against Ternana, circumstances aside, has relegated the Rossoneri to the penultimate place in the table. It is a position in the table that is becoming worrying with the team called to string some results together in order to avoid the risk of relegation to Serie D.

This last aspect is too important for the American ownership that has already invested a total of €12m in the new project. Despite this, Bonera’s position is not at risk at present, and he still has the backing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jovan Kirovski to turn things around.

There are some mitigating factors such as the fact the squad are trying to play a similar brand of football to Paulo Fonseca (as opposed to being more direct or pragmatic), while certain stars like Francesco Camarda, Jimenez and Kevin Zeroli keep being taken away for the first team.

Next Thursday in Campobasso, Milan Futuro will have to try to obtain the third victory of a season that risks becoming increasingly complicated. As a reminder, the outright bottom club are automatically relegated, while the four teams above go into a play-off.

  1. Utter nonsense. Who told you he’s not at risk? Given the investment in the squad, management won’t risk relegation. He’ll do well to survive the winter and neither Ibrahimovic or his irrelevant friend have any decision making power.
