Bonus Podcast with Oliver and Anthony: Life without Champions League football

In the latest edition of our bonus podcast, Oliver and Anthony sat down to discuss what life will be like without the Champions League. Indeed, following the Bologna defeat, AC Milan are more or less certain to miss out.

After finally making it back to the competition for 2021-22, the Rossoneri could now be on their way out again. Eight points separate them and fourth place in the standings, and they no longer have a game in hand to rely on.

In short, the situation is rather dire and the outlook is not super positive for next season, given how much the competition means. This is something Oli and Anthony discussed in the latest edition of the bonus podcast, highlighting the reality while also trying to identify some positives, even if there are very few.

  1. You speak too long. Financial loss could be much more. Because of sponsorship included but.

How bill of cost and income function? When you have more revenue you can have more costs. That’s why Red Bird changed Adli Pobega Saelemaekers for Chukwueze Ruben Loftus and for Example Fofana.

To shortcut I take only 2 players for example:
You have total expense for Adli 1,7 mill of ammortisation plus around 1 million in gross wages. And Ruben Loftus is around 10 million. So when you sell Ruben Loftus and keep Adli in next season, your total cost is only 2,7 million.

Because of the result in this year it is better to keep Adli and sell Ruben Loftus for minimal profit. When you decrease costs you still can keep many other players.

Tomori, Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus all costs 10 million per year on sheet. If you just remove them you don’t even need profit from their sales.

This is good example to understand why you need to spend wisely. 1 bad season you have a lot of players on bill who flopped.

I would personally love to see Kalulu Adli Pobega in this team because they fight in compar3 to always injured Ruben Loftus Chukwueze who can’t go in attack or average Tomori.

It’s better maybe to pay Torino 35 for Ricci in that case.

So if Red Bird lose 85 million of revenue and still have 320 million of income in next season half of money they can save by releasing very expensive players and 40 million can capital gain from sales. Tomori maybe 20 plus Saelemaekers 20. You don’t even need to sell anyone else.

They did good job in Red Bird in terms of buying players. They have now a lot of assets to be sold.
