Braida names Milan’s two stand-out players and the ‘winning moves’ vs. Napoli

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan director Ariedo Braida has named the two players from the current side who would get in the legendary teams he assembled and also spoke about the Rossoneri’s Champions League exploits.

After his career as a footballer, Braida held the position of sporting director of Monza from 1981 to 1984, before moving on to Udinese in the same role. He then held the position of general manager of Milan from 1986 to 2002 and in the same year he became sporting director too.

He is credited with making some excellent signings that helped the Rossoneri established themselves as a European force, something that they are now hoping to do with a new crop of talented players.

Braida spoke on Radio 24’s ‘Tutti convocati’ show about his former club and the season that they are having, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Who from the current Milan could have played in my Milan? We had a team of champions. But there are strong players in this Milan too… I am thinking of Leao and Maignan,” he said.

“Milan must continue as they have done in recent performances, they have shown that they are a strong and compact team. Napoli could have broken through on the left with Kvara, but Pioli was very good and always doubled up on the Georgian who found himself facing a wall.

“Kvara almost always beats you in one-on-one situations, so that was one of Milan’s winning moves against Napoli.”

Milan and Inter will meet in the final four of the Champions League 20 years after the last time they met at this stage of the competition and 18 years after the last European derby.

“Milan and Inter are two important teams even if this year the championship says they’ve both stuttered a bit. But I think they will be wonderful matches because Italian football has shown that it knows how to play in the Champions re-emerged after a bad period,” Braida said.
