Former AC Milan head coach Cristian Brocchi believes that a win in tonight’s Supercoppa against Inter could give the Rossoneri’s season a much-needed boost.
As a player, Brocchi won the Supercoppa Italiana twice in his career, with one coming as a Milan player in 2004 and the other when he was at Lazio five years later. He was the Primavera coach of the Rossoneri from 2014 to 2016 before becoming the interim head coach, reaching the Coppa Italia final which secured qualification for the 2016 Supercoppa that Milan then won.
Brocchi was interviewed by Tuttosport and was asked about the match that will take place tonight in Riyadh between Milan and Inter and what it means for both sides, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.
“The Rossoneri always play to win. Milan have more awareness than last year because they have players who have taken an impressive step forward,” he began.
“Inter are a consolidated team, with players who have been together for a long time. And players with more experience who, perhaps, can have an impact in a one-off match. But I think the gap from two seasons ago has closed.
“Last year it was the league derby [which inspired Milan to the Scudetto], this year it can be again. Of course, there is Napoli to catch. But winning the Super Cup can give an important boost to the Rossoneri’s ambitions.”
He also spoke about Milan’s last summer transfer window which has come under fire in recent weeks for perhaps not providing Stefano Pioli with the reinforcements he needed to improve the squad.
“The transfer market didn’t help Pioli but the quality of the players is there. Just think of De Ketelaere, just think of what was said about Tonali in the first year. Wearing this shirt at San Siro isn’t easy, a burden you have to be able to overcome,” he said.
“The numbers of these players are there, to become Milan-wortgy, but then only technical qualities are not enough, you also need personality.”
The quality of the players is there and then start about CDK lol
