Burnley announce star midfielder has rejected new deal as Milan continue to circle

By Oliver Fisher -

Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick has rejected a new deal at the club amid reports linking him with a move to AC Milan, a report claims.

It was reported by Sky UK recently that the Rossoneri have added Hendrick to their list of targets. The midfielder’s contract will expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.

Calciomercato.com recently reported that Hendrick has been offered to Milan and Roma. The Irishman can play both in front of the defence and as a box-to-box midfielder, and an intermediary apparently offered him to the Serie A duo.

Now, it has been announced that Hendrick has turned down Burnley’s offer of a new deal.

“The Clarets have lodged their retained list with the Premier League, which confirms the departures of senior men Joe Hart, Aaron Lennon and Adam Legzdins, along with the news that midfielder Jeff Hendrick has rejected a new contract offer,” their statement reads.

As Sky Sports note, Milan signalled their interest in Hendrick before the recent pandemic and are weighing up the potential of tabling a deal.

The Rossoneri have been scouring the English market in recent months like rivals Inter, with Wigan defender Antonee Robinson almost joining in January.

Burnley though ‘remain hopeful of keeping Hendrick at Turf Moor’ while a number of other Premier League clubs have shown an interest.
