Cagliari boss Davide Nicola has praised AC Milan for the way they played against Real Madrid, insisting their current league position is false.
Milan must not make the ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ mistake by dropping points against a struggling Cagliari side tomorrow following their Champions League victory against Real Madrid.
The Sardinian side stayed up by one point last season and so far in 2024-25 they are hovering above the drop zone again with nine points obtained, yet they will be well up for a match of this magnitude.
For the Rossoneri there is no doubting that there is a big opportunity to reopen the title discussions, especially given that Napoli lost last weekend and will play Inter this time around.
Nicola spoke at his pre-match press conference on the eve of the game at the Unipol Domus, and his comments were relayed by TMW.
Are there any unavailable players? How much of the Milan we saw in Madrid will we see again?
“I’ll have them all, except the two suspended players. We’re talking about a team [Milan] in a position that doesn’t reflect its value. They have some high quality players.
“They played an immense match against Real. We are Cagliari and we know we’re facing a great team. We must remain humble.”
Fonseca said he fears the Cagliari game more. How do you assess these words?
“He expressed an opinion. I respect him for the class he has in dealing with the situation. He has a very precise philosophy.
“For us, Milan will be a very tough opponent, and sometimes it is not enough to give 100% to win. We will have to give something more. They are beautiful games to play, you face extraordinary players.”
Ideally, Inter and Napoli will play to a draw, like Napoli did against Juventus, so that both clubs drop points
