Calabria thrilled with clean sheet: “We work every day to avoid conceding” – video

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria was particularly pleased with the clean sheet he and his team-mates were able to preserve during the 1-0 win over Sampdoria.

Milan were not at their fluid and free-flowing best like in the win against Lazio in midweek, but an early goal from Rafael Leao and a resilient performance at the back was enough to secure another win and top spot for another week, though Inter do have a game in hand to make up.

Calabria was interviewed by Milan TV at the end of the match against Giampaolo’s side, with his words transcribed by MilanNews.

“It was a positive match. We had a good second half, but we had to finish it. It was the result we wanted. It will make us work well,” he said.

“We work every day to avoid conceding a goal. We are a good defence, even if we have had some important defections during the season. We are a solid and united group, who work hard.”

On being in first place: “We have to believe in it if we want to aim high. We are ambitious, we always want to fight for positive result.”

On the many fouls during the game: “Today he [the referee] could have whistled less. It is not my role to judge, but you lose pace. It is a contact sport. It makes no sense to whistle everything, especially with VAR. But I have noticed an improvement in our league.”
