CorSport: Centre-back returns to Milan but should leave again with Empoli interested

By Oliver Fisher -

Mattia Caldara has returned to AC Milan but he will not remain for long and a Serie A side have reportedly come forward expressing an interest.

Caldara was considered one of the defenders with the highest potential in Serie A and back in 2018 he joined Milan from Juventus in a deal worth €35m (via Calciomercato.com), but things never worked out as all parties hoped.

He never managed to establish himself due to a myriad of physical problems and was sent out on loan to Atalanta who did not buy him outright, but Venezia took him on loan for the 2021-22 season and he began to play with more continuity.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Caldara has returned to Milan after Venezia’s relegation but it is unlikely that the centre-back will remain with the Rossoneri. However, Paolo Zanetti’s Empoli have emerged with an interest, and he is the coach that he just had at Venezia.
