Capello highlights the two reasons why Milan ‘suffered’ against Chelsea

By Oliver Fisher -

Former head coach Fabio Capello has highlighted a couple of reasons why AC Milan struggled during their defeat against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Milan were pretty much inferior in all departments during their defeat against the Blues as they lost 3-0. A scrappy goal from Wesley Fofana in the first half set the tone and allowed Chelsea to settle, with a quick second half double from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James enough to seal a comfortable win.

It is yet another harsh lesson for the Rossoneri on the biggest stage after they won just one of their six group stage games last season, even though they had taken four points from their first two this time around.

Capello spoke to the media about the defeat that his former club Milan suffered the Champions League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“Absences certainly had an impact by reducing the possibility of bringing about freshness and quality through changes,” he began.

“But the difference was mainly traced by the pace and superior determination of the English side. In the Premier League this is normal, in Italy less so. In fact, Milan – who also play quickly in Italy – suffered.”

  1. And dont forget the squad depth.
    – If Cucurella injured, Chilwell will play.
    – If Reece James injured, Azpilicueta will play.
    – If Jorginho-Kante injured, Kovacic-Gallagher will play.
    – If Havert-Mount injured, Sterling-Pullisic (and Ziyech) will play.
    – If Aubameyang injured, Broja will play.
    – If E. Mendy injured, Kepa will play.

    I haven’t mention Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trevoh Chalobah & Denis Zakaria.

Yes, Chelsea’s squad value is 861M euros. ACM at 550M euros. 300M euros are huge different.

  2. It is a combination of several factors: injuries, squad depth, coach being monotone/one dimensional regardless of opponents, key players underperforming. We need to look at the defeat as a whole, a big picture. Picking out one problem with the team that you do not like about and just bashing it like there is no tomorrow would not help.

For example, you don’t like the fact that we did not get a high quality RW player in the summer mercato, then you just go “because we don’t have a good RW” every time we fail. Or you don’t like how much time and money we spent on CDK and you also hate the look on his face, then you bash him for every team failure. This is just so autistic. A person like this is probably so bottled up with everything in life.

Take a step back to look wide and far. Stay detached and open minded, do not cling on to anything.
