Capello states Inzaghi took ‘arrogant’ approach to Milan fixture: “Lost touch with reality”

Simone Inzaghi is regarded as one of the better coaches in Europe currently, but Sergio Conceicao schooled him, as AC Milan beat Inter 3-0.

Many expected Inter to bring Milan back down to earth on Wednesday night, and take their place in the Coppa Italia final. However, for the fifth time this season, the Rossoneri did not fall to the Nerazzurri’s hands.

Instead, it was the Diavolo who were the dominant force, putting three past their bitter rivals and securing a place in the final of the cup, to the surprise of many. Sergio Conceicao revealed that there was one message he gave to the team beforehand, whilst dedicating the win to the fans after a difficult season.

In his column for Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Fabio Capello hounded the Inter coach for his selections, even dubbing the Italian to be slightly arrogant with his team selection, as Football Italia write.

“Clear, decisive and thrilling, something we’ve rarely seen this season. Inzahgi’s team had chances to take the lead in the first half, but in the second half, Milan were confident, strong and determined.

“Inter vanished, as it happened on other occasions too. Many will talk about fatigue, but I think it’s more of a mental issue. I would not be surprised if the defending champions had lost a bit of touch with reality after beating Bayern Munich.

“I hope the win over Bayern Munich is not seen as a final destination, but as a starting point for something more important. I sense a bit of arrogance even in Inzaghi’s choices. He rotated in a derby that was almost like a Final. This time, it seemed that he underestimated the Coppa Italia a bit too much.”

  1. I don’t think it’s arrogance. They have a Champions League semi-final coming up in a week and they are also competing for the Scudetto. Priorities.

Milan on the other hand, this is all they have to play for.

    1. But you risk going from possibly three trophies to zero. You have to play the game in front of you before considering the next. If they end up empty handed at the end of the season, he’ll probably look at his approach to this match as a mistake.

  2. Inzaghi’s main desire is the UCL, then Serie A. He made a gamble yesterday with his rotation, and it did not work out. We may win or not the UCL (low % of likehood), but it is much more thrilling and financially profitable giving it a try.

    1. I’d even say he rotated the wrong people, as you have a bench of hungry young players who could do better than Mkhitaryan and Barella. They looked too tired. If you finish the season with empty hands I would be looking at Inzaghi’s rotations.

      1. Agree, he has been the coach for 4 years, and still has not learnt how to do rotation. It is his weakest point, one that indeed can cause a lot of damage. It already did last season in the UCL.

        1. The coaches course is running a course in HOW TO MAKE SUBSTITUTIONS!!! I THINK INZAGHI SHOULD APPLY FOR IT, AS HE ALWAYS SAYS THAT HE LEARNED SOMETHING AFTER EACH DEFEAT, YET HE ALWAYS COMES OUT WITH A NEW FOOLISH SOLUTION MOT TO SAY, THE REGULAR ONES!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

  3. Napoli scudetto, Barca win UCL, Milan win coppa Italia. What do you expect bro Inzaghi ? Haha..
I think he will take on UCL. Hes already winning coppa Italia and Seri A. If inter win UCL, Simone Inzaghi will resign and go to ac Milan. For sure. Haha….

  4. Well whatever Capello, or anyone said that Inter came with arrogance, or Inter is not full team last game with Milan, thats why Milan can won.

The fact is, before coppa semifinal, Milan and Inter have met 4 times this season. And on that 4 games, Milan never lose against Inter.

So, this season I can say, that we are superior against Inter, and thats good.

  5. He didn’t underestimate anything, he has Serie A title and UCL at stake, and he rested 3 starters. We just wanted it more and it showed.

All the respect to all the veteran italian coaches turned pundits, but more often than not they are the ones out of touch with reality. Honestly I don’t know why anyone pays attention to what they say anymore. Worse than Cassano.
