Capello feels ‘sunk’ watching leaderless Milan: “Incapable of making three passes”

Fabio Capello pulled no punches in his assessment of AC Milan’s defeat against Liverpool at San Siro last night, calling them a team that are ‘incapable of making three passes’.

Milan’s European campaign got off to a bad start as they were not only beaten 3-1 by Liverpool in front of a home crowd that was far from capacity due to ticket sales, but they were dominated in the game and there were very few positives.

Christian Pulisic gave the Rossoneri the lead but Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai all struck for the away side as they came away with the three points.

The 3-1 scoreline eradicates all of the momentum that might have been built from the 4-0 home win over Venezia on Saturday and Paulo Fonseca and the players are now under a lot of pressure after leaving the field amid boos.

Capello covered the game on Sky and he provided his post-match thoughts after what was another negative night and performance from the Rossoneri, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

“I feel sunk watching this Milan, without reaction, incapable of making three passes. They continue to play football attached to the goalkeeper, who touched the ball more than Morata,” he said.

“Without courage you don’t go anywhere. Then it is clear that everyone plays but there is no leader. Do you know who was the leader tonight? Abraham.

“Leao’s only play came at the end. You have a player who can cause problems for the opponents and you don’t serve him. The first ball touched came in the 20th minute. All this makes me have little faith in this Milan.”

    1. Capello is Milan best coach ever, but he is 80 years old and hasn’t coached a club in almost 20 years. He won’t be able to put up with the shenanigans of todays footballers. He was a hard nosed coach back in his day and todays players are mentally weak.

  1. And in the end life can be utterly ironical… Back in the day I was not so fond of Capello, cause he tended to bench one greatest idols on football, il genio Dejan Savicevic, but now I see that besides these kind of peculiarities, idiossincrasies every coach is entitled to have, he was a superb tactician and leader of men.

    1. We more than had the squad for second, and still do. And let’s not that Napoli and Juve underachieved last year as well.

Pioli played hard to watch, 1-dimensional football, that more often than not just about did the job.

It was infinitely better than this absolute s***show, but I wouldn’t want him back.

      1. Pioli reached his limits and Milan wouldn’t have won anything with him again. And the scudetto wasn’t Pioli’s handwriting but collective performances from everyone with Zlatan to lead the team with his strict demands.

Glad Pioli is gone as now there is hope of better football and results but it doesn’t seem that Fonseca is the answer either as the players despise him.

  2. Sickening to watch this performance…Milan has never been this low on confidence in their own backyard…I couldn’t wait for the final whistle to get over this embarrassment…I will say it again, Sarri is the coach that can get the identity and rhythm back

  3. “incapable of making three passes”

I’ll see your three and raise you by another two.

Every time the defence had the ball, the Liverpool players literally just stood still in half spaces (probably laughing), and everything froze.

The only player who seemed capable of picking the ball up in midfield was RLC, who in turn, would then do something utterly stupid with it.

It was actually painful, and Sunday will be worse.

    Sarri!

  4. Old coaches should recognize the value of silence and avoid commenting too much. As the saying goes, ‘Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise.’ Let the players grow through their own experiences and speak when your guidance can truly make a difference.

    1. So what you’re trying to say in a nutshell is that, everyone should just keep quiet and watch until MILAN is totally destroyed?
      BRAVO AMIGO 👏👏👏

  5. “Leao’s only play came at the end. You have a player who can cause problems for the opponents and you don’t serve him. The first ball touched came in the 20th minute.”……This is an indication that Leao was starved and can hurt any team anyday
