Unfortunately, it seems Fabio Capello has given up on the idea of AC Milan winning the Scudetto this season, after they drew 1-1 with Roma.
The draw in Rome has certainly knocked the spirit of some Milan fans. Whilst it is another game unbeaten and another decent result against a Champions League contender, the Rossoneri never looked like a massive threat.

Instead, their goal arrived from a corner, and barring that, chances were slim. In fact, there were only two shots on goal in the game, one from Koni De Winter and the other from Adrien Rabiot.
Capello’s criticism
Whilst the game has not killed their chances of winning the title, Inter now have a five-point lead, which may be too much to overcome in the final 16 games of the season. Capello, speaking to Radio Anch’io Sport on RadioUno after the game, stated that it may now be too much for Massimiliano Allegri’s men.
“Yesterday, Milan played a defeatist first half, lacking vision. I liked Roma; they created a lot and could have been two or three goals ahead, and they had plenty of chances. They seem like a team that plays by trial and error. And I’m surprised that the two attackers were passive without the ball,” Calciomercato.com relays.
“It was a Milan side lacking personality, and without that character that shows itself in every match as a team confident in its own strength, I think it’s difficult for them to catch Inter, who instead have a unique personality.
“Milan gave me the illusion of having reached a level of play that, however, they completely lost yesterday.”
Honesty
No one can excuse the lack of quality yesterday. Leao and Nkunku offered next to nothing in attack, the defense was getting ran thru every 10 minutes. Allegri had a perfectly good #9 on the bench yet barely brought him on and in his 1 chance he did more than leao and nkunku did in an entire match. This insistence to start leao no matter what is hurting our chances, even more now when he clearly looks off the pace and unfit. We cant play 2 up top and have literally neither of the forwards be good at playing striker. Fulkrug needs to syart alongside Nkunku or pulisc. Thats the only lineup that makes legit sense: a #9 and a false 9 beneath him to play off of
I don’t blame any of the strikers. We are not set up to be offensive. It’s more then just the strikers. The strikers are isloate with no one to play to. When they do get the ball in the final third the build up has been so slow the other team’s defense is already set and we are not running midfields into the box or doing overlaps.
I blame the strikers but I blame others too. Let’s not kid ourselves and pretend the (so-called)strikers did well and there simply couldn’t have done better. Look at the balls they lost. Look what they “created”. Look how they “helped” the team.

A Milan Derby win and an Inter draw against any of Juve, Atalanta, Roma, Como or even Bologna would turn the tables around.
Inter are arriving at a crucial point in their season where they have to play one tough team in between UCL commitments. Let’s see how they manage for that.
You’re assuming we’d also win every other game, while we’ve already dropped points to Cremonese, Pisa, Parma, Genoa, Fiorentina, and Sassuolo. Two of these teams are newly promoted, and five of them are essentially battling relegation. Meanwhile, even in the games that we win, our form is dismal. The wins are often belabored and even lucky. Even if we do somehow beat Inter and if they drop points somewhere else, it feels unlikely we won’t also keep dropping points elsewhere.

That’s true. But now we HAVE to beat inter, even a draw at this point wouldn’t be enough. I can see inter dropping 4 points during that stretch. That would give us a little wiggle room cuz I don’t see milan not dropping points after this but this is close to what 2021 was like. It’s possible.
Luck always runs out sooner or later. The draw yesterday was more luck than anything. Same with many games in the past. Just doesn’t pass the eye test as of late.

if we play corto muso against the best teams and play 433 with leao pulisic and fullkrug up top against the bottom half of the teams we will win the scudetto. I base that not on analytics but by watching every serie a game this season with a hyper fixation on Milan’s games.

It’s the first year with a new coach competing against an Inter side that often go deep in the UCL. Given all the injuries, second place is fine.

No he cant see the future and nor can you.
Yes, largely opinions of people who shouldn’t speak because they’re incapable of looking at things objectively. A good coach improves players. Allegri has absolutely done that. Maignan, Tomori, Pavlovic and Barteshagi have improved over last season. Gabbia is more or less where he was last season. Rabiot is playing the best football of his career and Modric was, for the first two months, one of the best players in the league.
De Winter is showing improvement. There are signs that Ricci is growing into his new role and more comfortable with his teammates. The only bust in midfield so far is Jashiri.
The issues in attack are down to injuries. Leao was injured early in the season and clearly isn’t fit, as stated by himself, the coach and others. We haven’t been able to call on Gimenez either, how much of his poor play was down to his ankle is something we’ll only know a few weeks after he returns. Pulisic has also had injury issues.
We haven’t and don’t have an elite centre forward. My guess is that will be addressed in the summer.
Allegri plays functional football. If there’s no real improvement at the end of next season, chances are he’ll be replaced.
Jashari a bust? He has played some good to excellent football in the unfortunate and irregular circumstances.

Allegri’s Milan has no winning mentality. The Scudetto is slipping away. A team that sits back, play defensively, creates no chances stands no chance of getting the Scudetto.
