Capello offers verdict on Milan’s primary defensive target: “He did not impress”

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are looking to add Strahinja Pavlovic to their defence in the summer, but their former manager Fabio Capello has offered a damning review of the defender this morning.

In Fonseca’s eyes, the defence should be built around Fikayo Tomori, and the traits the Englishman lacks should be made up by others. However, there is also a need to compose the entire defence right, to get the best of each player.

With Theo’s attacking tendencies, it is believed that the back four could become a three at times to allow the Frenchman the freedom to attack, and with Pierre Kalulu being tested as a right-back, there is a greater need for defensive reinforcements.

If Milan transition into a three in stages, the Rossoneri must recruit a defender who can play on the left of a back three, and Pavlovic did this during the European Championship, but Capello was not massively impressed by his performances, as he stated in this morning’s column for Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News).

“Pavlovic with Serbia at the European Championships played on the left in the three-man defence: as an armoured, he did not impress me, but I understand that Milan want to bring physical strength and centimetres to the department, especially if Kalulu should be diverted to the right by Fonseca.”

  1. This guy is an ikea wardrobe. He’s just a tall, physical guy. That’s about everything he brings to the table, that and a tendency for tackling excessively, much to the dismay of the heart health of the fans of the teams he plays for. That might have been enough years ago, but in modern football at the highest level, you need more than that. He’s fine against small teams with limited attacking resources that rely excessively on crosses and not much else. This guy is going to get totaled by any team with a dynamic, associative way of playing and attacking, specially in UCL. Also, not a player I’d pay €20-25M for. I’d much rather we got Todibo instead. There’s so much more you can make out of that player as a defender.

    1. Tell me you don’t know anything about this player without saying you don’t know anything about this player.

Sucks that I can’t give yt links here, you’d do well to watch a bit before writing that b.s

      1. I don’t need links I have eyes and common sense, sorry, maybe you’re serbian or a salzburg fan or maybe you just have a soft sport for the player but it’s the truth

    2. That’s so superficial and ignorant. Blabbering

He is very intelligent. I follow him for years now and can certainly say that his potential is enormous with right guidance.

      1. He has the potential of a hot dog with nutella on it, sure there is a hot dog there somewhere but….just like, face it, lol

  2. Haha Capello with the boomer vibes. Football has changed man. If an algorithm developed by data scientists says that this guy is a good football player, then it’s the truth. Moneyball said that Chukwueze would match Messias’ productivity and it fcking nailed it! Grande algorithm

    1. He used 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 with Lille, not sure why he’d change that especially that we’re built for a 4-3-3 but without having a CDM.

  3. Can someone tell me, why Capello was not asked to coach Milan? He has been with us in the past. He knows the Milan DNA. He maybe old school but in older schools, teams relied on prayers to God more than players in the team to help them score against Italian defences. Why wasn’t Fabio Capello, Roberto Donadoni, Alberto Zaccheroni, Marcelo Lippi or even Giovanni Trappatoni not given offer to coach Milan?

    1. I was think same with Sacchi. Why all of this want to talk about what is wrong and no one work in fotball… and maybe true is , they all are too old and has old tactics and fotball styles… they was great back in 80’s and 90’s…. now after 30 years they are just a ghost of old times and You can see Milan rather sign Fonseca then some old Italien (like Sarri)

    1. We never interested in him, and even if we are, Ito played at Bundesliga before, you think we can offer something more than Bayern? Or the player will choose us over Bayern?

  4. Wouldn’t Kiwior or Emerson Royal have been better? Also like why is our budget so low? We are signing freaking Morata not David, Gimenez or Gyokeres as rumoured earlier. Saving for the new stadium or something?
