GdS: From stadium to networking – Cardinale’s four-point plan to create a ‘Super Milan’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s new owner Gerry Cardinale is targeting four key areas for the club to continue their growth over the coming years, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes how two months have now passed since the closing of the deal that saw the ownership of Milan transfer from Elliott Management to fellow US-based fund RedBird Capital, fronted by Cardinale.

The paper claims that Cardinale certainly does not want to sit idle and really wants to ensure that Milan grow from all points of view, i.e. in a sporting, economic and brand appeal sense.

Stadium: The number one target is to build the stadium that would allow revenues to skyrocket. Then there will be a massive exploitation of data which does not only mean having information for the market but also for the physical and tactical aspect.

Communications: Making Milan a ‘Media Company’ is perhaps the main aspect that Cardinale will go for in his first months at Milan. The idea is of course to keep winning, and then to convey that success to millions of fans around the world.

Network: Another very important aspect that Cardinale wants to import from the American model of doing business in sport is to create a network of relationships with other sports brands and personalities, as seen through the partnership with the New York Yankees. The Main Street Advisors fund have also invested in the new Milan, which also includes Lebron James among its main investors.

Commercial development: Cardinale wants Milan’s brand appeal to grow on a global scale, such as through fashion – as evidenced by the agreement with Off White – to cinema, as shown by the recent campaign for the new film by The Rock. RedBird will try to create a solid sponsor network that can help the club not only in revenue but also in spreading its name.
