AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale sent a message to the team and the entire staff after the first trophy of his tenure was won last night.
Milan produced a stunning comeback to beat their rivals Inter and lift the Supercoppa Italiana, triumphing 3-2 in Saudi Arabia. As if that wasn’t enough, it is the club’s 50th trophy in total, and it comes in the 125th anniversary season.
Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi scored either side of half-time to put Inter in command. However, the Rossoneri came roaring back: Theo Hernandez scored with a free-kick to halve the deficit, Christian Pulisic equalised and Tammy Abraham won it in the dying moments.
As mentioned, it is the first trophy of the ‘RedBird era’ at Milan and although Cardinale could not be present, he followed the game. Afterwards, he sent a message to the team through Zlatan Ibrahimovic, relayed below.
“Congratulations on this extraordinary result. Winning this trophy and doing it in a derby was special and something you should be deeply proud of,” he said (via MilanNews).
“The season so far has been challenging, but enjoy this moment and with this push return to Italy to reclaim the place that Milan deserves at the top of Serie A. I embrace you all and I am with you at all times.”
Huge applause to the greatest owner ever. Milan couldn’t have won it without your presence. First trophy of 25 or more. 🙂
Are you high?
It’s not UCL league…
Type in “sarcasm” in Google and be amazed.
he is happy with the pricemoney he received thats all but absence in every big occasion..
With you at all times?!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
Yes I agreed with you milanista the owner is clearly happy about the prize money.
Cardinale is a bit like the cops in the old action movies: show up in the end after everything is over and hero has already defeated the bad guy.
Haha
😂!
LOL … That’s a good one. And I loved those movies.
You’re right. Beats OakTree FC and doesn’t celebrate in person.
Clown owner probably didn’t even watch the game
Owner probably wondering are we the red ones or the blue ones since it says “Milan” in both teams ?
But was it at least a text message or just a post on X?
Ah sorry it was “through Zlatan”. What a nice way to congratulate your team.
Zlatan just couldn’t help himself in the dressing room and grab some of the attention… Dear Lord…
Cardinal didn’t watch the game, he only heard about the result.
The haters are really showing their true colors now. It’s really killing them that Milan has won a trophy under Redbird. Like I said, they are not really supporters of the club . When you are more angry when the team wins and then celebrate and gloat when the team loses, you have other agendas.
Yep and I wish the admins would do something to silence the toxic fans. It’s embarrassing.
Moncada was the one who pushed for Fonseca, due to him coaching in Ligue 1, Ibrahimovic wanted Conte and Sarri, Gerry wanted Conceicao so he indeed deserves credit given his lack of experience and knowledge of the game.
it’s not about Pro-RedBird or Anti-RedBird.
It’s about merit. Some things were done right, others were screwed up. But bringing in Conceicao AND winning this is a step in the right direction …
It has nothing to do with ‘merit’. It’s about behaving like mature adults, not unhinged lunatics. It’s about having a basic understanding of football finance and exercising patience. The imbeciles are the ones who can’t see past the same anti American racism that we heard when Elliot took over.
The Final was a wonderful advertisement for Italian football. Not only did it produce the right result, but it had everything – 5 superb goals, especially AC Milan’s imaginative, incisive, efficient, sublime third created by Captain America and the beast that’s Rafael Leao; fine goalkeeping saves; a miraculous fight-back; an exciting, last gasp denouement. Great credit to both teams for putting on a brilliant show.
As for the rejuvenated Rossoneri – they must follow up this triumph with victory in Serie A next weekend, otherwise the ecstasy of Riyadh will turn quickly into the bummer of Cagliari. The club’s owner must be under no illusions about the task that lies ahead. To secure a Champions League spot at the end of this campaign; to win the Scudetto next season, the squad needs to be strengthened. What’s needed is a team not just studded with gifted technicians but also powered by grafters who are willing to work hard every week against both strong and weak opponents.
AC Milan is a global cultural phenomenon whose rightful place in Planet Football is at the very top of the sport – nothing less will do justice to its proud history. To repeat the feats of the Berlusconi era, when the Rossoneri reigned supreme, the current owner must invest heavily in the team – setting aside short-term profit in favor of long-term gain; the club must win – not just make money. If the owner doesn’t have the financial resources to do that, he should sell AC Milan to someone with deep pockets who has. Otherwise, he’ll have a major insurrection on his hands in Italy. Milanisti are tired of mediocrity and the lack of footballing ambition.
Appointing Sergio Conceicao as head coach was the first, albeit belated, step in the right direction; the revival that the Portuguese master tactician and team motivator conjured up in Riyadh was the second step. Now for the third, fourth, and other required steps. Is the owner up for the challenge?
Go AC Milan – you brought your fans a lot of joy this past week. Keep up the excellent work!
Nice essay which shows you have zero understanding of football finance. It’s the 2020s, not the 1980s. Clubs have to be self sufficient and comply with both Serie A and UEFA regulations. Having deep pockets means nothing. Why do you think these regulations came into place? Did you miss the financial collapse of wealthy clubs like Parma and Lazio last century?
