CM: Cardinale makes thoughts on Pioli’s future clear as renewal is on the agenda

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s new owner Gerry Cardinale knows that there are certain issues that he must tackle early into his tenure, and one of them is the renewal of Stefano Pioli.

On the horizon there are the two games against Chelsea and the match against Juventus, and Calciomercato.com reports that Cardinale will be there to make his presence felt and also to begin working on some of the issues related to the club’s future.

Obviously this includes the Rafael Leao renewal situation, but that will be a complicated negotiation that is unlikely to be wrapped up quickly, but on the other hand the extension of head coach Stefano Pioli’s deal is very much on the agenda.

Pioli is under contract with Milan until June 2023, but there is an option for renewal until 2024 that the club can and will exercise given the fantastic work that he continues to do and the Scudetto win last season.

CEO Ivan Gazidis made it clear recently how important Pioli is for the plans of the Rossoneri: “Stefano perfectly expresses the modern, exciting and innovative approach to football that we want, and also embodies the style and values of the Club, in the way he represents us publicly and for the attention he has for all the people around him. I am proud that he is our coach and I am excited for the future together.”

Cardinale’s target for Milan is an exponential growth of the club even off the pitch, to be pursued with the man who helped make the Diavolo winners again on the pitch. The plan, therefore, is to continue together.
