GdS: Chelsea readying club record €120m bid for Milan star Leao – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea are considering making a big bid for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao that would be close to his release clause, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Chelsea are not content with having spent €210m on the market so far as they are weighing up a €120m offer for Leao, which would represent a record transfer fee for them.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel along with new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly have put together a list of targets to reinforce the attack and it seems that last season’s Serie A MVP has jumped to the top of that list.

Tuchel believes the attack needs more quality as the three goals this season scored by the Blues have come from Jorginho, Kalidou Koulibaly and Reece James. The Blues also believe Leao is a young, flexible player that is perfect to integrate with Raheem Sterling.

There have been contacts only with Jorge Mendes so far, but a deal remains very complicated, because Milan have no intention of selling especially a few days before the end of the transfer market, which would make it impossible to find a substitute that is worthy.

  1. If that offer really comes through, i would merrily accept it and then reinvest that 120m to buy 3-4 solid players to bolster all the key departments. With that we would also end that salary saga, which anyway may result in Kessie 2.0.

    1. Who would you get/ who would be available with less than 7 days left in the transfer window. I agree its a lot of money but thats risking a lot. Id say not sell

  2. Leao is young and not yet ready for a top club like Chelsea. For his development he needs to be followed and suppurted as Mr Pioli is doing with all the young talents at AC Milan. If he moves away too early risks to never became a real champion, this could be a very risky transaction for the London team.

    1. Exactly than its agents now a days who calls the shots isn’t it…..I was wondering will h be successful in fast paced Premier league……risky moves for all parties……

  3. Out of that amount 15% will go to lille because of resale clause inserted…..even if we get 100m plus we better cash on it and because this contract saga is gigio written all over it…..invest amount to upgrade team just like juve did by selling zidane..bit I guess this news is probably far fetched……

  4. @ Manu
I will gladly sell, infact if pioli is wise, this year could make Milan even more so unpredictable! Leao is becoming a reference point of the attack which is really bad for a would be solid team! If leao is sold Adli, CDk and could fan behind Giroud as the SS (supporting strikers) and TRQ( trequartista) respectively. Then Tonali, Pobega and Bennacear would complete the midfield trio…a replica of the diamond tree formation that brought us a lot of success in Ancelloti’s Milan. I’m in support of them selling leao for that price absolutely

  5. Pulisic (worth around 45m) + Ziyech (20-25m) + 40/50m.
If they are willing to pay 120m I would get this deal. This way we wouldn’t be hostage of any other team which would milk us because a) we would be desperate b) we would have plenty of money.
This way we sell well and get (very good) replacements (if not upgrade overall) at the right prices.

    1. Pulisic is an RW, we don’t need both him and Ziyech, I prefer Pulisic + Chukmueweka. Better if they also add a young CB too.

    2. Both of those players are on far bigger wages than Leao is, not sure that would make any sort of financial sense unless they took paycuts or came on loan with their salary part-covered.

  6. Sell it for 120 million, if all those money will be re-invested to players and not going to owner’s pocket. I’m afraid it will suddenly in the news “Maldini got 30mil addition for transfer budget from Leao sales”

  7. We are gonna lose both Leao(Chelsea) and Bennacer(Mancity) this season.

We should definitely sell Leao if an offer over 100 mil comes. That contract saga needs to end with Leao renewal or we must sell him.

As for Bennacerm, I dont want milan to sell him. It would be the worst mistake. We should renew him at all cost and build the team around him. He has the caliber to lift the whole team. He made the useless Algeria National team play like golden age barca.

Tonali is clearly overhyped unless he proves his consistency. So Bennacer is the only one who seems to hold our midfield at the moment, specially when he is clearly on the way to be one of the worlds best in his position.

Hope Pioli and management sees it and comes to their senses.

  8. Chelsea are only good at talking while buying time to transfer window closure. They are no longer a serious team to count on

  9. I would sell him without a blink of an eye if i was the management, he’s asking for 7M which is a lot and better cashed him now than again losing it for free.

  10. Selling Leao is the best option for Milan. The way his agent keeps dragging this contract issue is worrying. I sense another Kessie like pattern, so, selling him for that price makes so much sense. In addition, Leao thinks he has arrived hence, the unnecessary attitudinal behavior. It is better for Milan to accept the reality and sell than to think this guy will renew.

  11. I agree with Giorgi absolutely.
The First Replayment PSV No 11 just Disqualified from Champions League.
    Prelimanary Round

  12. Should be all right. Take Leao, and i believe he won’t be shine in EPL. So he can come back to Milan next year with lower transfer fee

  13. Jorginho
    Ziyech
    Pulisic
€50M to reinvest with 15% going to Lille is only €7.5M.

You buy Noa Lang, Antony, or Ansu Fati to replace him and Evan Ndicka.

Solves all problems for you immediately.

Rebic moves to the LW until the younger players develop.

Salesmaekers or Messias could be sold. Pobega could go back on loan.

  14. Are there anyone left who thinks Milan shouldn’t sell Leao? Because it seems that everyone is convinced that the best option is to cash in while we still can. And I do remember certain people aggressively defending him and treating him as a god or something and name-calling everyone who even hinted about selling that poor little kid. 🙂

    1. Do you really believe AC Milan can get his replacement in just 5 days left? Do you really think chelsea are serious splash money like that easiliy after they still chasing gordon & fofana?

  15. 120 million! I would accept it with my eyes closed, he can leave in 5 mins. What bothers me is that we wouldn’t have time to buy other players, transfer window closes in 7days.

  16. Im agree with @tony…
Other alternative is Origi. He can play at the left. If we can’t buy player in this mercato, then maximize players what we have now. And in january, we can buy another player. This half season is ended in mid November, with just 18 games include CL. Its a little bit gamble, but this offer is too good to reject. As long as its not rubbish…

  17. Sell Leao for Ziyech and $80m.
    Add the $5m
Buy DM and LW for $70m.
    Buy young CB for $15m.
Play our best and hope for the best.
