Report: Chelsea face competition as Spurs offer €10m-a-year to Milan star

By Oliver Fisher -

Spurs are willing to offer Rafael Leao a large salary in order to convince him to leave AC Milan, according to one journalist.

The renewal situation surrounding Leao is a tricky one given that the player is demanding a big pay rise in order to extend his current deal – which expires in June 2024 – and there is the added complexity of the €19m fine owed to Sporting CP due to the unilateral termination of the contract and subsequent free transfer to Lille.

Fabio Cordella – an entrepreneur linked to the world of football – spoke on a TV Play broadcast on Twitch (via MilanLive) and spoke about Leao’s situation as follows, stating that the Rossoneri ‘do not have the means and do not want to have the means to match the demands of his entourage’.

Due to the fact the player did not come through the youth system at Milan and does not have the same attachment as Calabria or Tonali for example, Leao ‘will only renew on his terms’ and if big salary offers arrive from abroad ‘it will be difficult to keep him’.

Cordella also revealed the existence of very important offers: “There are clubs that have even offered him 10 million a year. Saying Chelsea is not nonsense, but there are other English clubs as well. Tottenham is among them.

“In my opinion, far from the lights of San Siro he would not be the same Leao as at Milan, but just a phenomenon among many. It is not taken for granted that he will go to Manchester City or that City will then win the Champions League.”

  1. This is a lie.

They cannot offer anything until the last 6 months of his contract or if they have their fee accepted by AC MILAN which we all know was not.

One more thing is that Leao is a natural LW but Mr. Conte himself doesn’t play with wingers at all.

He could try Leao on a AMC or CF or ST position but why would you pay extremely high fee after which player has to completely adopt to a new position on the pitch when you can buy a player that is already excellent playing the position you need and don’t have to pay this much to have it?

    Ring a bell.

OFFICIALLY they cannot. But teams do violate that and inform the agent “we’d be willing to pay xx per year if he came”. Nothing UEFA can do about it. Everyone does it.

      1. Yup. Happens all the time. Odds are Leao is gone one way or another. The EPL money will be too tempting plus he has a debt to pay. He needs to be sold for max profit in January. I understand this will probably mean an end to the title challenge this season, but I see it as a step back to take two steps forward. With the money received (and maybe a player in exchange) we can replace Leao and plug another hole in the summer. Overall the squad will improve. Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano.
