Romano: Chelsea make Milan star ‘top priority’ but renewal is sought ‘as soon as possible’

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea still have Rafael Leao as a ‘top priority’ according to Fabrizio Romano, while AC Milan remain hopeful of extending his deal.

There continues to be an abundance of speculation regarding what the future might hold for Leao given that his contract is set to expire in June 2024 and a number of top European clubs have been linked.

It is understandable that the Portuguese forward is in demand given he was crowned the Serie A MVP last season after Milan won the Scudetto, hitting double figures in goals and in assists across all competitions.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the Sky journalist Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the situation surrounding Leao and in particular the rumours that Chelsea could launch another attempt.

“Chelsea remain interested in Rafael Leao. He’s a top priority for them for the present and future, but at the moment it depends on Milan. They have an important game in the Champions League with Tottenham,” he said.

“They would love to keep the player to fight for the Italian league, to fight for the Champions League. They want to extend his contract as soon as possible so not an easy one.”
