CorSport: Chelsea readying package worth over €100m to convince Milan star

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea seem determined to keep testing the resolve of AC Milan and they have a new offer ready for Rafael Leao, according to a report.

As reported by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Milan are seeking to find an agreement with Leao over the extension of his contract, which is currently set to expire in June 2023.

However, they are aware that Chelsea are still keen on signing Leao having made a €90m bid during the summer, and they are readying a huge offer to sign the winger with the possibility of also paying the compensation due to Sporting CP as an extra sweetener.

Milan could receive an offer of more than €100m, while the Rossoneri management recently spoke with Leao’s lawyer Dimvula about a renewal and the idea of increasing his pay to €6-7m net per season. However, the fine of almost €20m would remain standing.

Milan’s idea is still to keep Leao at all costs, even with the sirens of the Premier League getting louder. Leao remains halfway between renewal and sale.

    1. Ziyech? He’s 30 years old and getting paid 6m Euro per year. This is at the top of our salary cap. Unless he accepts a reduction to ~4m he won’t come. Given how he has performed at the WC, it’s likely some mid-table EPL club will offer him his current salary for more playing time.

Pulisic? He currently earns 8.3m Euro per year. If we can barely muster a 7m Euro offer for our “star” how are we going to pay Pulisic 8.3m per year? You think he will leave Chelsea/EPL for a 25-40% reduction in salary? Lol.

  1. We all know how important to the squad Leao is and we know we wouldn’t have won the Scudetto without him . The truth remains that this window he must be sold if he doesn’t renew by early January ,as come the summer his price will halve to around 60milion. It’s a necessary evil to sell him as we can’t keep losing money like that. Reinvest, reinvent and restart. 100million plus is not something to pass on.

  2. Happy to sell for the right amount, despite his excellent achievements with us. 100m is a lot of money. We don’t even need to replace like for like if we consider a formation change.

  3. 100M could sort out atleast 2/3 positions. Negotiate with new players on money and clubs on fee and then sell Leao since otherwise clubs would 2x or 3x the value for us.

    1. Yup. Club building 101. The club will become stronger overall. With 1.5 years left on his contract I would take anything over 100m and run.

  4. Is Leao better than Kaka huh? Just once winning MVP serie A and Scudetto it doesn’t makes him irreplaceable, it’s funniest moments in this football era lol

  5. 100 million is superb. If Leao is happy with our new contract, then this is our best signing for the next few years. If Leao is happy with Chelsea’s offer Milan must complete the transfer with Chelsea and later quality reinvest.

  6. Sell him 100m ➕ zyiech
Then replace Leo with Jeremy Doku who can play either right or on the left. Don’t if you pay Doku 2.5m and Zyiech 5m it’s below what Leo is requesting for. If an important play leaves at substantial amount of 100m and an upgrade is made below 100m perhaps at 50m there’s 50m left then we can pay our debt.

    1. I like your logic. I was thinking maybe just 120m cash and then getting Lang at ~25m for LW. Ziyech might just be a bit too expensive for his age. Doku (or whoever else) sounds fine in the summer for RW. Then spend the rest on a top ST, top DCM and good backup for Theo and we’re cooking with gas.

  7. “Keep Leao at all costs”…? why? he hasn’t shown unwavering loyalty or anything and while he is an excellent talent and I want him to stay, there are plenty of talents that emerge each and every single year. It’s unfortunately time to sell and actually use these funds to help build our team. Should have sold Rebic last year too., now his value is poop
