Potter praises Milan’s support and looks ahead to ‘very complicated’ return game

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea boss Graham Potter was full of praise for the AC Milan fans and is expecting a tough return leg after his side won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last night.

It was a disappointing Champions League evening for AC Milan as they lost 3-0 to Chelsea, with their eight injuries ultimately catching up to them as several players struggled and the team looked inferior in all departments.

Wesley Fofana’s scrappy opening goal set the tone for the evening, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring against his former club to double the advantage and then Reece James capped off the scoring.

Potter spoke to the reporters who gathered in the media room at Stamford Bridge to reflect on the game and the performance from his team, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How do you evaluate the win against Milan?
“The team played really well, we finished with a clean sheet, we worked well this week too.”

What does such a game mean to you?
“I am the manager of Chelsea, I have to prepare well for the games and we need concentration. Chelsea-Milan is a fantastic game and winning it was even more so. Now we have to recover and be ready for the return leg on Tuesday.”

Is there already something different than Tuchel?
“We have worked well and hard, the players have responded well to my methods and I am impressed with how they are playing and the honesty they are working with. The merits are all of them, I am part of the team but I just have to remind them that they can play at the level put in place today.”

The return at San Siro?
“We can’t wait. It is an incredible stadium, we have already seen their support here and we will have to be ready because it will be a very complicated match.”
