Reports: Chelsea planning mass summer clear-out – midfielder offered to Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is expected to be part of a clear-out that occurs this summer which could boost AC Milan’s hopes of getting him.

According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea are planning to reduce the size of the squad available to Graham Potter given that there are currently over 30 players in the senior ranks and they have spent over £500million on signings in the past two windows.

The primary candidates for the possible departure list are those who have just one year left on their contracts which therefore means Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic.

In a follow-up article which references The Athletic’s story, talkSPORT report that Kovacic has offered his services to Milan ahead of the summer.

It comes after PianetaMilan reported that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara had a very interesting market meeting at the hotel they were staying at during last Wednesday’s game against Spurs in the Champions League as they met Kovacic’s agent who pitched the idea of him moving back to Milano, this time with the red half of the city.

        1. Yes, but I’m sure he and his reps understand our situation, so if they’ve offered him to us he may be willing to come for a wage we can afford. He also arguably enjoyed his best professional period in Serie A, playing 80 games over two seasons for Inter. Sometimes the prestige of a historic club, CL football and the promise of playing time can still overcome wage disparity. He may be willing to come for 4-4.5m.

  1. Kovasic is a good upgrade in the MID park. I will like us to get him. At least there will be more depth in the MID compare to those garbage we have presently. Depth is what has taken Napoli this far and we doesn’t have any again.

  2. If Kovacic and Pulisic can be had on the cheap we could add needed midfield depth and RW quality. We’ll see.

  3. Kovacic is a proven player. We need a few of those instead of bench warmers like Origi or Ballo Toure. He would be a decent replacement for Kessie because Tonali is not doing well this season. We also need an actual striker. Unfortunately Aubameyang seems to be finished.
