Chukwueze ‘very happy’ but humble after first Serie A goal: “I trust the manager”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan secured a three-point cushion over Juventus thanks to the win against Hellas Verona this afternoon. Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench and bagged his first Serie A goal, expressing his feelings after the game.

In the 73rd minute, Pioli decided to take off Noah Okafor to give Chukwueze some minutes. Verona were pushing for an equaliser, at a score of 1-2, but instead the Nigerian found the back of the net with a great volley.

He got a 7/10 in our player ratings and after the game, he was understandably very happy. Speaking to DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, he expressed his feelings and also stated that he trusts Pioli’s plan.

On his performance…

“I’m very happy, I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. These first months have not been easy, but I have continued to work hard. It’s very important to win, but I also want to keep scoring to help my team, they signed me to score goals. I trust the manager and his plans for me, I just have to stay focused and continue with the hard work.”

What season has it been so far for you?

“It wasn’t easy, those who play in my position are doing very well and are scoring a lot (laughs). Of course, the coach cannot put these players on the bench. I continue to work hard and it doesn’t matter if I play little, today’s goal is very important for my confidence. I must continue to be focused on the future.”

A message to the fans?

“Thank you, I hope to continue scoring for you.”

The international break is up next and Chukwueze has been called up for Nigeria, with two friendlies on the cards. Hopefully, he will build on this goal and show his true qualities after the break, having struggled to impose himself earlier in the season.
