Nigeria's forward #11 Samuel Chukwueze

Chukwueze rubbishes idea of early Milan exit but admits: “I need to prove myself”

Samuel Chukwueze has rubbished any speculation that his stay at AC Milan might be a short one after a disappointing first half of the season at his new club.

As Nigerian source Soccernet report, Chukwueze joined Milan from LaLiga side Villarreal during the 2023 summer transfer window for a deal worth €20m plus some substantial bonuses, which made him the most expensive summer signing.

The 24-year-old arrived after a season in which he amassed 13 goals and 11 assists in 52 appearances for Villarreal, earning him links with teams like Arsenal and Real Madrid, but Milan pushed hard and got their man in late July.

However, he has not set the world alight in Italy thus far. Christian Pulisic has been fantastic since his arrival while Chukwueze has two goals and one assist in 19 appearances across all competitions.

Most of his appearances have been from the bench and he did sustain an injury on international duty which put a stop to the momentum he was starting to build.

Soccernet state that ‘there have been talks that Chukwueze may leave Milan to go on loan to another club’ – though we must say we have not read any such stories – and the player responded to that idea.

“I’m not leaving because I need to prove myself. They signed me for quite a good money. Me leaving AC Milan means that I’m just shying away from my responsibilities,” he said.

“So, I just have to focus and work hard. It’s a big club, so I have to show myself and show my potential. If I didn’t want to play, I wouldn’t have signed for the club.”

  1. He seems like a good lad, with a good attitude.
Hes been pretty poor since he arrived and looks very 1 footed. So I’m not convinced with his skill set.
I hope he can do better as we need him. There have been some good 1 footed players like Di Maria.
Though Di Maria struggled on LW at Madrid and came alive more centrally.

Its certainly worth trying him at AM or LW see if that suits him better

  2. IMO he just only needs to simplify his game.. especially here in serie a where the defenders not so easy to slip through, he needs to know when to dribble or when to pass.. he got talent and characters tho’

  3. Give him chance one more season , he skip pre season and that affected his physical . Next season he will full attend pre season

  4. Nigga is stinking @#AFCON
NGMI, management should cut their losses and get Romero ready for next season(a loan to como in this window).
