CIES study surprisingly places Donnarumma as 11th most valuable goalkeeper in Europe

CIES – the Center International d’Etude du Sport – have compiled the ranking of the most valuable goalkeepers.

The study has thrown up some surprising results however, as AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is ranked only in 11th place with a valuation of €35.2million.

Not only that but he is ranked behind two other Serie A goalkeepers in Pau Lopez (€37.9million) and Alex Meret (€35.7million). In the top three places are Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, Liverpool’s Allison and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizzabalaga.

It is possible that part of the reason for Gigio receiving such a low valuation is down to his contract situation. The Rossoneri No.99 is currently on a deal which runs until 2021, meaning the club are at a crossroads regarding his future.

They must either agree a renewal before the start of next season or sell him in the upcoming window, so as to completely eradicate the risk of losing him on a free transfer.
