After weeks and months of talk about the San Donato stadium project, builders moved in today and began doing actual work to prepare the site for construction. However, it will likely be a bumpy road.
As Il Cittadino (via Calciomercato.com) writes, the announced fencing works of the San Francesco area, the one identified by Milan for the construction of the new stadium began today and the works are destined to last for a couple of months.
They will serve to keep away ‘drug addicts and homeless people’ who in recent times have contributed to the degradation of the area between the A1 motorway and the Milano Rogoredo railway station.
After having provided for the reclamation and cleaning of the land in the past months, Milan are taking a new concrete step in its project, which proceeds in step with the dialogue with local and regional institutions, within the framework of the Program Agreement necessary to begin the actual works.
However, the paper adds that controversy from those against the construction of the Milan stadium in San Donato has not subsided. The ‘No Stadio’ Committee met in recent days with the deputy mayor Francesco Vassallo, the president of Parco Agricolo Sud Milano Daniele Del Ben, the president of the assembly of mayors Rino Pruiti and the councilors of the Metropolitan City.

At the centre of the discussion is the following points: land consumption, environmental impact, as well as the fear that the roads of South Milan will go haywire. Added to the list is also the puzzle of parking and the repercussions on public order that could derive from a project of this caliber.
The protest also led to the collection of 3,000 signatures and Fabio Songa (member of the No Stadio Committee and the Borgo di Chiaravalle association) acted as spokesperson for this climate of dissent.
“I cannot refrain from criticising the actions of the San Donato administration which initiated the program agreement for the approval of the urban variant on the stadium without granting us a hearing, rejecting the request for a municipal consultative referendum and without even calling a meeting of the territorial commission to discuss and examine the issue in depth,” he said.
Pls allow Milan build their stadium in peace, all this bearucratic issues has a way of preventing development….. Bayern Munich didn’t face what Milan and Inter has faced over building of a new stadium, not even Arsenal faced such when they left Highbury stadium.
Because it is Italy….
Let the tree huggers and the drug addicts coexist peacefully together at the San Siro after our stadium is built.
What is ironic from Italy people is that they complaing about this but about illegal immigration destroying the country? Nope, nothing to see here….
