GdS: Clause in contract could force Milan to negotiate with Liverpool over 26-year-old

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have accelerated their pursuit of striker Divock Origi in the last few hours but they may yet encounter a problem, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara consider him the ideal profile to come in and strengthen the attack and they are looking to close the deal. The Belgian’s contract with Liverpool is about to expire and he would arrive on a free transfer, and his current salary of €3m net per season is not an obstacle.

However, a problem may arise through a clause in his current deal because Liverpool have an option to extend the deadline until 2023, therefore by an extra year. Not only that, but upon reaching certain conditions, an extension for another season would automatically be triggered.

If that were to happen then they would be forced to start a negotiation with the English club, just as they had to with Chelsea over Olivier Giroud.

  1. Forget this guy and focus on Scamacca.Scamacca knows the league,he helps with the Italian homegrown rule for Champions League has room to be world class striker, lower salary and have a play style similar to Ibrahimovic!

    1. I don’t think I see the same player you do. But if Scamacca’s price was more reasonable (20 mil) then its worth pursuing. He’s just too unproven for Milan to take a 40 million euro gamble

  2. Fingers crossed for Pool to exercise the option!!!

Origi would be as successful as Niang was. “Who?” you ask. EEEEEXACTLY!
