CM: AC Milan’s plans for Rafael Leao could change due to Boban’s departure

By Oliver Fisher -

The situation regarding Rafael Leao’s future at AC Milan could change this summer as a result of Zvonimir Boban’s departure, a report claims.

There has been a public fallout between director Zvonimir Boban and Gazidis over the decision by the latter to discuss a deal with Ralf Rangnick to take over as head coach and sporting director next season. This is expected to result in Boban leaving the club, with an announcement reportedly imminent.

Leao meanwhile was Milan’s most expensive signing from last summer, joining for a fee of €28-35million from Lille, depending on which outlet you believe. He has showed glimpses of promise and nothing more, consequently being relegated to the bench in recent weeks with Ante Rebic preferred.

According to Calciomercato.com, Leao was one of Boban’s pupils, perhaps the main one. The Croatian director considers the Portugal U21 international a pure talent ready to explode.

Until now that had been enough for the club to keep him around despite rumours of a possible loan exit in January. With Boban’s farewell, however the plans of the future could change: a departure on loan in the summer possible.
