CM: The game Bennacer should be back for after adductor problem

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer’s adventure in the Africa Cup of Nations is over as Algeria finished Group D in last place, meaning that he will be returning to Italy early.

Tuesday night produced another shock in AFCON as the 2019 winners Algeria were dumped out of the tournament at the group stage, with Mauritania claiming a famous first ever win in the competition.

A challenge that the former Empoli midfielder was unable to play, as had already happened against the Stallions, due to an adductor problem. The tests he underwent during the Algeria training camp showed no injuries, but Milan want to see clearly.

According to Calciomercato.com, Bennacer will return to Milano either today or tomorrow and new tests are scheduled for him to understand his condition.

He will almost certainly not be available for the league match against Bologna, scheduled for Saturday at 20:45 CET, but should return against Frosinone at the Stirpe on Saturday 3 February at 18:00 CET.

This season Bennacer has played five games and his most recent two – against Salernitana and Sassuolo – were as a starter.

He was available again at the beginning of December against Frosinone, 206 days after his last call-up (10 May injury against Inter, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final).
