CM: Italy international remains No.1 target as Milan go cold on free transfer duo

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are no longer interested in two free transfers that could have arrived from the Premier League to bolster the defence, according to a report.

Milan were linked with a number of different centre-backs during the winter mercato and in the end Matteo Gabbia – who returned from his loan at Villarreal – was the only ‘addition’. That means the investment in a new profile has been postponed until the summer.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com on Twitter, Adarabioyo and Kelly are no longer on Milan’s wish list ahead of next season, although no reason is given as to why Geoffrey Moncada and his team have now gone cold on the English duo.

However, he does add that the management will instead focus on signing Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino once the window resumes. The Rossoneri were heavily linked with a move in January but Urbano Cairo closed a door that could reopen in the coming months.

Ahead of Milan’s Europa League fixture against Slavia Praha, the Czech defender David Zima actually advised Buongiorno to make the jump to Milan, believing that his former team-mate is ready to take the next step in his career and compete for trophies at club level.

  1. Either we have a big offer for Tomori, we’ve lost confidence in Thiaw, or we’re moving to a 3-man defense (aka Conte new coach)…
Even if Kjaer leaves, I don’t see Milan splashing 35 million for Buongiorno unless it’s a direct request of the new coach or we include 1-2 players (dunno, Pobega + Colombo + 5 million), though I don’t think that selling Pobega would be wise.

    1. Hell to the no. He is the LAST person we need. Why would we sack one overly defensive coach for another who will just want expensive has beens? We need an attacking minded manager to get the best out of this team. Are you blind? Do you even watch the games? Defensive tactics is the exact opposite of what this team is built for

      1. Enough these useless blind no sense talk about Conte is not good for Milan. Let’s face it. Now there are only 2 italian coaches can take milan to the top. Ancheloti which is untouchable then conti. These are the only coach’s can win in European level. Wake up or just remember. Allegri, sari, spaletti…etc are nothing but local level coaches. A fact

  2. This is the correct choice. Enough free bee signings that end up like origi. This guy can easily lead the defense for the next several years, especially with guys like Gabbia, Thiaw, Simic, and Tomori if we hold on to him. I see Kalulu as more of a RB, especially with Florenzi not getting any younger

  3. Why not have a look at Calafiori for the CB position ? Cheaper, younger, way faster too and can play LB as well. I think he is a better fit for a high defensive line.
