CM: Defensive emergency will see Pioli rely on Primavera centre-back

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan may well be very stretched in the centre-back department after the three injury problems suffered in the last 48 hours, presenting a potential opportunity for Jan-Carlo Simic.

According to Calciomercato.com, there is some unrest at Milan regarding the rearguard after Simon Kjaer suffered a muscle strain meaning he missed the Napoli game, while Pierre Kalulu came off with a thigh problem and his replacement Marco Pellegrino didn’t even see out the game because he got an ankle sprain.

It is possible that Stefano Pioli o in view of Saturday evening’s match against Udinese – will be able to count only on Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw, the latter of whom will return from suspension after his sending off against Juventus.

To help with the numbers crisis, Pioli intends to draw from the Primavera team which is doing well under the guidance of Ignazio Abate and it is Simic who is ready to be promoted again for the home match against Udinese.

The Serbian central defender featured in the summer friendlies against Real Madrid, Juventus, Trento and Novara, providing excellent performances which suggested maturity to say that he is an 18-year-old.

Although he is therefore not exactly new to the first team, Simic represents a breath of fresh air in the Rossoneri squad. He is a modern defender who is physical but also skilled in build-up, as well as versatile given he can play as a full-back if needed.

After being picked up from Stuttgart thanks to the work of Geoffrey Moncada, Simic convinced Abate’s technical staff to rely on his defensive solidity, becoming one of the cornerstones and pillars of the Rossoneri’s Primavera team.

A constant, continuous growth led him to taste senior football this summer, and this trust is ready to be reconfirmed in the coming months.

    1. Me too. It should have been him being integrating into the first team this season, instead of that wild turkey Pellegrino. If we’re up by a decent score against Udinese he should come on to spell Tomori, who has played nine games straight.

  1. That was how we thought Adli would start against PSG and Napoli, who did Pioli play instead, he just kills the morale of promising youngstars
