CM: €40m midfielder divides opinion of Milan management; Benfica and Fiorentina circle

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management is split regarding the future of midfielder Lucas Paqueta with two teams circling, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, Paqueta was purchased from Flamengo last January for a fee of just over €40million (€38.4m to Flamengo plus €2.9m in commissions to agents), but after his poor form in recent months his future is now uncertain.

A part of the management would like to try and rejuvenate the Brazil international, perhaps with a new coach. The belief is that a renewed technical guide can bring back the smile on the player’s face, and with it the lost magic.

However, there are those who think that Paquetà is now out of the project, but there is one certainty: he will not be sold off. His value on the balance sheet is still €28.5m, so to record a capital gain from a possible sale Milan will have to collect an amount between €30-33m.

In January, Leonardo tried to sign him for PSG but his offers never came close to the requests of Milan. Rui Costa’s Benfica are seriously interested as are Fiorentina, and Commisso wants to give a gift to his fans, with the Brazilian an ideal profile.

Juventus meanwhile – after discussing a swap deal involving Federico Bernardeschi in January – are no longer interested in the 22-year-old.
