CM: 4-3-3, Milan Futuro and Rabiot – how Milan could adapt after Bennacer blow

After the news of Ismael Bennacer’s latest injury, AC Milan are being forced to adapt to their situation. To do this, they have a few options, a report has claimed.

For Milan, there could be a few things that go worse during the season-opening period. Controversy has occurred, the mercato caused some doubts, they have failed to win a game in their opening three fixtures, and now, an old problem has re-emerged.

Throughout last season, the Rossoneri were hurt by a lack of midfield options, and with Bennacer’s new injury they are left in the same position, and a way out must be found.

Calciomercato.com suggest there are three possibilities for unlocking the situation.

Firstly, there is the possibility of a formation change from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3. With Fonseca no longer having two recognisable ‘deeper’ midfielders, perhaps, there could be a change of formation to a flat midfield three.

Alternatively, Silvano Vos or Kevin Zeroli could be moved into the limelight of the senior team. The Dutchman would only be able to feature in Serie A, and he could be offered a chance after an impressive Futuro debut. Zeroli’s qualities have been known for a significant period, and he would also be able to feature in the Champions League.

The third option, and most expensive option is Adrien Rabiot, who has already turned down the Diavolo. He is demanding a €7.5 million salary per year, and with Milan’s midfield options slim, it could be an explored idea once again.

  1. Crikey what a mess

Make you wish we had Krunic back!

RLC, Musah, Fofana, Reijnders – How is that our midfield?
Not enough in terms of numbers/depth or quality.

At this point whether it is 433 or 4231 we don’t have the personnel

  2. I don’t get what the problem is – Benny was hardly playing anyway. RLC – Reindeer – Fofana in a 4-3-3 and we’re golden. As long as Fonseca can actually make a formation change AND get the players playing like we all know they can. He’s got 3 games…

    1. The problem is Musah is the only first team backup to those three you mentioned, and RLC is a big question mark in midfield, especially in a double pivot.
Vos is untested but interesting although he can’t play in the CL and Zeroli still hasn’t shown he is ready , so our midfield looks lightweight for a busy schedule of games we will have to play.
It’s poor planning of the midfield department that should have been fixed in June latest.
This shows the utter incompetence of the management when they know how much the team suffered in Midfield last season.

      1. I think everyone was so desperate for us to sign a DM, they forgot we have no back up.
If we planned on getting rid of Adli and Pobega (and we tried to sell Bennacer) we should have signed another midfielder

We signed 17 players between last summer, winter and this summer and yet we still have huge holes in midfield and both full back positions.
Lets just hope Mike doesn’t have his usual couple of months out

  3. Forget Rabiot. He is likely going to Saudi Arabia for a huge salary. We should have signed Koné. Again, a big opportunity missed by our management.

    1. They tried. Couldn’t offload Bennacer in time. And now with this injury I doubt any club comes calling in the winter. So there’s that.

  4. Bennacer was the only one “suited” with the double pivot and now he’s out. I put that in parenthesis because he was suited with a Kessie figure next to him and NO injuries plaguing him, both of which are no longer an option.

It’s like the universe is trying to tell Fonseca to scrap the double pivot: we officially don’t have the players for it.

Leave Zeroli alone. Vos might be too good for Serie C, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready for top flight. (Although arguably if Musah is there so could he).

Start with the known commodities: Fofana and RLC with Reijnders in the middle. See how it goes.

    1. 433 seems the best formation and Fofana, RLC, TJ are the obvious choices, but how can we survive 2 games a week, injuries and suspensions with Musah as back up? It’s a huge problem

  5. Hardly a blow – he’s been imjured for a significant part of his Milan career. We should have shipped him a year ago and now it’s too late..
