Olivier Giroud scored his first goals in open play since the first round of the season during last night’s draw against Napoli, but they were not enough to earn three points.
Calciomercato.com report that Giroud continued his trend of always being there in important moments, particularly at the Maradona where he has now scored four goals since signing for Milan.
Behind that vehement reaction to the substitution also hides the sensitivity of a man who feels what it means to wear the Rossoneri shirt and with all his strength wants to reverse a situation that sees the team in difficulty in terms of results.
The Frenchman is a super competitive player with an incredible hunger for victories, even at 37 years old with a career behind him made up of many successes and titles. This is why his priority is to play at least for one or two more seasons at Milan, which can also give him the chance to fight for the Champions League and the Scudetto.
Giroud’s entourage have started initial contacts with the Milan management to discuss the renewal of his contract expiring in June, and Milan’s priority has also been reiterated in recent days.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea man has received offers from MLS and Saudi Arabia, but has not taken them into consideration for the moment. The focus is entirely on the pitch and on Milan with the hope of soon finding an agreement over a new deal.
Giroud works really hard and I think his defensive effort goes unnoticed. We need to see this kind of fire. We had it the last two seasons but some players seem to have lost it. Maybe it was Calabria’s PSG comments or the goals, but the team made positive steps last night in a tough situation. Musah had a really good game, Krunic was better and regained a bit of confidence, and Reijnders did well but that was overshadowed of those two bad moments.
I hope to see more of Adli, Okafor, Jovic, and Chukwueze and Loftus Cheek if fit. They need to get up to speed and the others really need a break.
Giroud is a true winner, his only problem is that he simply cannot keep up the same intensity over a long period of time.
Calabria, despite being technically an average player, showed that he is a true captain and stepped up his game. I’m gonna be against many here and say that we actually need to keep him, even if he is not always a regular.
I maintain that technically this team is good, but I think we need a new coach to get the most out of these players and definetly a new physical preparator and medic to stop this injury crisis.
