CM: High price, competition and non-EU slots – the truth about Kvaratskhelia to Milan links

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the most talked about players over the last few days in relation to Milan has been Rubin Kazan winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

It was reported over the weekend by Metaratings.ru that Kvaratskhelia will continue his career in Italy as Milan were very close to completing a deal, with former Rossoneri defender Kakhaber Kaladze having assisted the operation.

According to the latest from Calciomercato.com, Kvaratskhelia is one of the most interesting and talked about young players of the moment, a 20-year-old attacking winger capable of playing on both flanks, who can beat a man with the dribble and can score.

The Russian press have talked of well-advanced negotiations between the attacker’s entourage and Milan, but the report claims that the situation is quite different. Kvaratskhelia has been on the Rossoneri scouts’ notebook for some time, but for Maldini and Massara he is not a priority.

Rubin Kazan want €18-20m to sell and he is also a non-EU player (Georgia are not in the European Union) so after the purchase of Tomori from Chelsea, Milan would be using their last slot, which would prevent Kaio Jorge arriving from Santos.

The most likely destination is not actually in Italy but rather England or Germany as Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach like him.

  1. Irrespective of the name of the players targeted by Milan, decent new CAM and RW will be available for at least a total of 40M in cash. Evidently, looking at Milan behavior so far, this amount is not available. Milan’s strategy (loan with option to buy) significantly narrows the potential list of targets. Probably, we will transfer (if we do) either older players (for example Ilicic), or swap players (for example, Brandt vs Leao). In sum, we should not expect surprises or have high hopes. I would say Pobega will stay (Bakayoko or Kamara are expensive), Ilicic will come (only if Samu is sold). And that is all. Everything else is just rumors and talks.
