CM: January loanee waiting for signals from Rangnick as Milan plot defensive shake-up

By Oliver Fisher -

Defender Simon Kjaer wishes to stay at AC Milan beyond the summer and is waiting for a signal from Ralf Rangnick, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, with the exception of surprises, Kjaer will be Alessio Romagnoli’s centre-back partner for Friday night’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Juventus.

The Denmark international arrived in January with the label of stopgap, to fill the spot in the squad left by Mattia Caldara’s departure to Atalanta, but now the chances of staying beyond his initial loan are increasing.

The 31-year-old for his part is very happy at Milan and would like to stay with the Rossoneri into next season, while it will take just €2.5million for Milan to sign him permanently from Sevilla.

Monchi – the sporting director of the LaLiga side – is waiting for more concrete signals from Italy but it will take time, as the final decision will depend a lot on the assessments of the next manager Ralf Rangnick.

A defensive revolution is scheduled in the summer: Matteo Gabbia will go out on loan, Leo Duarte will be tested in this season finale, while it is Kjaer who has more chance of staying than Mateo Musacchio – who could return to LaLiga with Valencia.

Kjaer awaits a signal from Rangnick with the hope of staying with the Rossoneri for a long time. In the meantime, the loan is being extended for another two months, until August 31st. Milan are very optimistic to get the yes from Sevilla in the next few hours.
