CM: Kjaer is the Ibra of the defence – Milan’s plan for his future includes two new signings

AC Milan know that they have a precious element of experience in centre-back Simon Kjaer and as a result they are already thinking about extending his deal.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan know that they have the veteran presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to lean on as the Swede helps drag the team through games at time, but it is also Kjaer’s Milan too.

Everyone has underlined the importance of the Dane in the turning point that the Rossoneri have experienced post-lockdown, and he has established himself as one of the best signings of the last year as it is easy to forget the club paid just €3.5m to sign him permanently.

The report refers to Kjaer as the ‘Ibrahimovic of the defence’ for Milan given his importance on and off the pitch and his ability to raise the levels of his team-mates, such as Romagnoli in the second part of last season but also Gabbia in the early stages of 2020-21.

Maldini and Massara want two new central defenders by the start of next season, with the name of Kabak strong for the immediate and that of Lovato for next year, but Kjaer will be vital then too because he will be able to help the new signings settle.

His contract expires in 2022 and while the situation is not as urgent as other renewals, Milan will continue to monitor the physical condition of the 31-year-old over the course of the season and it is not excluded that in the coming months the parties may also consider the option of further extending his stay.
